I planned our staff Christmas party here for 19 people. I made reservations a couple of months ago with an estimated guest count of up to 26. As the numbers decreased, they were very understanding and just requested that we give a final count a week before so they can allot the seating. I was sent a variety of preset menus to choose from and we went with menu #3.....antipasto, pasta in tomato basil sauce, an option of beef, chicken or salmon as entree, and a choice of B-52 cheesecake or chocolate tartufo for dessert. I believe it was $49 or $50 pp for this menu......with the bread to start, we were all stuffed at the end of the meal. They were able to accommodate for the vegetarians and the vegan/gf guests. For antipasto, they left off the meat and feta and gave beets, carrots, artichokes and some greens. For the pasta dish, they made mine with gf corn pasta. This pasta was very bland and the chili oil wasn’t very spicy. For entree, everyone enjoyed their meal and the chef made a phenomenal dish for me: eggplant cooked to perfection....soft and melt in your mouth....with peppers, quinoa and tomato sauce. They did not have lentils but I was very happy with this meal. For dessert I got a fresh fruit cup consisting of berries topped with orange slices. We let the guests choose their drinks....wine, liquor, pop, tea and coffee. We did a gift exchange game during our meal and they were kind enough to set up a small table for the gifts and bring a garbage bag for the discarded wrapping. They never complained about our noise level or that we were in their way. The staff even took group photos for us! The servers were were courteous and helpful. The washrooms were small but clean. There is free parking in the lot behind the restaurant. They have a coat check area which is nice as the restaurant itself is “cozy” and dark. They did also have a private room with another party in it. They did not even add the gratuity automatically for a party of our size and they allowed us to add what we wanted. We were very happy with our experience here. Thank you Michael, Anthony, Shaun and your entire team.

We had a great time dining at Michael’s Back Door. From the moment we arrived, the cozy atmosphere made us feel welcome. We were seated in a lovely corner by the window, which was private and comfortable. Our waiter, Joseph, was friendly and attentive without being intrusive, letting us enjoy our evening at our own pace. We started with drinks from the mocktail menu: the Spicy N’Storm and the Espresso Martini. The Spicy N’Storm was our favorite—it tasted like ginger beer with a little kick, very refreshing. The Espresso Martini was perfect for coffee lovers, with a strong coffee flavor and aroma that wasn’t too sweet. For appetizers, we tried the Polpette di Cinghiale (wild boar meatballs) and the Artichoke Arancini. Both were tasty, but we liked the Arancini more. The creamy filling and crispy coating were satisfying, though the artichoke flavor was very mild. The meatballs were hearty and filling, but the tomato sauce tasted more like salsa and wasn’t very unique. For the main dishes, we chose the Capelli d’Angeli and the Vitello Sorrentina. These were the highlights of our meal. The Capelli d’Angeli, angel hair pasta with lobster, was delicious. The pasta was cooked perfectly, the lobster was fresh and plentiful, and the sauce brought everything together beautifully. The Vitello Sorrentina—veal with prosciutto, eggplant, and mozzarella—was tender and flavorful. However, the side dishes were underwhelming, with just a couple of potato slices and small pieces of broccoli and cauliflower. For dessert, we had the Delizia al Caramello and the Sticky Toffee Pudding. Unfortunately, these didn’t meet the high standard set by the earlier courses. The Delizia al Caramello had strong flavors that might appeal to some, but it wasn’t for us. The Sticky Toffee Pudding was okay but a bit dry and needed more caramel sauce to make it stand out. Overall, Michael’s Back Door gave us a wonderful dining experience. The ambiance, service, and main courses were excellent, even though the desserts and some small details could use improvement. We’ll definitely be back to try more of the menu.

*Check for 2022 update below* June 2021: First indoor dining experience in God knows how long. Finally felt like a true date night! The ambience of this restaurant is cozy and homely yet classy in its own way. They have a good selection of appetizers, main and dessert. We ordered a trio of bruschetta, roast chicken and agnolloti. The three bruschetta flavors were tomato jam, sauteed mushrooms and zucchini with parmesan shavings. The mushroom one was very dry while the other two were marginally better. The roast chicken was stuffed with mushroom served with tarragon sauce which was very delicious! The agnolloti was the star of our meal. The stuffed ricotta cheese tasted fresh and the whole dish felt quite light, which is uncommon for a stuffed pasta dish. The portions were sufficiently generous. Not too heavy for 1 person. To seal the deal on the meal, we ordered a sticky toffee pudding which was plain and simple yummy! It disappeared within minutes of being served. Overall, a great way to start our indoor dining streak. The service was very friendly, not as prompt as I would have expected. Highly recommended! I would visit again. Update (Aug 2022): Visited after nearly a year and wasn't as thrilled as the first time. I had been here twice after my very first visit in June 2021. Disappointing to know that they ran out of the Agnolloti by the 7 PM dinner service. I was very much looking forward to trying it again. It's my favourite dish, that's been consistently good. For a vegetarian, they only have 2 mains, Agnolloti and Gnocchi. Typically, even the specials don't include any vegetarian mains. I wish they would improve on this front. The gnocchi is no match to the Agnolloti, for sure. It is very tomato-ey and cheesy. The structure of the gnocchi barely held when mixed with the sauce. I would NOT recommend this dish at all. The mains were quite disappointing that I didn't bother with a dessert. First time, I wasn't satisfied with my meal here. Might give this restaurant another shot, perhaps only after I confirm that they do have the Agnolloti available before I go to there.

Just got home from celebrating my Mom's Birthday here. I rarely feel the need to post a negative review but this I must.

  1. A gut instinct told me to call to confirm the reservation upon which I was told that we had no reservation even though I have email proof that they could provide the Wine Cellar room for my party of 10 for 6 pm. The person I spoke to said that the person who emailed me is out of the country.....a response which does not make sense to me, nonetheless we went as he said they will have the room ready for us in 20 mins.
  2. The waitress who took our drinks order was somewhat polite however when I asked to order appetizers (2 guests were senior citizens and hungry), she told me we can't order apps until the remaining guests arrived....I wanted to tell her that I'd be ordering for the entire table but she walked out the room so quickly after that comment, she seemed angry that we placed a drinks order from her before our server arrived
  3. Our server was just rude & inattentive. After water was served, he didn't refill our glasses during our 3 hour stay. When my 3 year old son was closing the door he told him sternly not to break it, when my son didn't move out of his way to put something on the table he made a rude comment- I agree with him making comments for these 2 incidents but at least do it respectfully and courteous, we weren't eating free of charge & we were being respectful & courteous to him. When he was taking a group photo at the end and my 6 year old daughter made her usual monkey face he asked her about it (he seemed to think she was making fun of him). When taking our order I ordered my meal and right after I was ordering for my kids and he told me rudely to wait that he will take the kids orders last. He seemed to have an issue that my kids were sitting on their parents lap as he commented about it and twice he put their food by their empty seats instead of where they were sitting and told them to go eat it there. In a less than desirable manner he also complained that some of our chairs (3/10) were too close, I understand that it would have made it more difficult for him to access the table but again, it could have been said politely. When my cousin said she'll share her dessert with her Mother sitting on the other end of the table again he had an issue with this and asked her rudely if she will 'share with her quite over there'. He tried to make an occasional few jokes to compensate for his rude remarks/"off" demeanor/ terrible decorum however our experience with him was enough to convince us we will never return to this restaurant, and sadly so, because the food as always, was top notch. However, courteous service is more important to us as it's hard to celebrate & enjoy good food & good times with your loved onse if your server is so rude, it dampens everyone's spirit & is not worth it. 10 of us Mississauga residents will definitely not...

There is a parking lot behind the plaza that is free I would suggest parking there as the restaurant entrance is literally a back door, well you can enter from the front but would need to walk to the end of the hallway and walk down a couple flights of stairs to their entrance in the back. There are also street parking in front of the plaza but this is paid street parking.

The restaurant has a bunch of smaller private dining area to host small intimate parties. They also have a room upstairs on the main floor which looks like could hold around 60 people or so which is great for small to medium business gatherings. The main dining hall is downstairs which holds maybe another 120 people and there is a smaller room across the hall that holds another 15 people or so.

We also ordered a bottle of wine which was recommended by our server she said it is from the same town the Michael's are from. The bottle we ordered was the Primitive Monte Tessa Puglia. This wine was wonderful full bodied and smooth.

We ordered the bruschetta and Charcuterie board. The bruschetta was very fresh and tasty and the dish comes with 4 pieces but they are so flexible that they can add extra if needed but of course for a small fee. The charcuterie board is a good size for 2 to 4 people. They also don't have a kids menu but since everything is made from scratch our server said they can make anything and everything off the menu but half portion or side dish size for you. I ordered the soup of the day which was a vegetable soup with curry flavour and I loved it, the portion size was generous. As for my main I ordered their daily special which was a braised boneless beef rib with a medley of vegetables and cauliflower served with au jus. This dis was highly recommended by our server and wow the flavour was out of this world but just slightly salty. My wife ordered their Linguine Fritti Do Mare is a red sauce with a hearty serving of shellfish. Our friends ordered the Capelli D'Angeli and the Pollo. I was told that their dishes were very flavourful and delicious.

We will definitely be back to try more of their...
