More Thai, located in the former space of Thai House Cuisine 2, promises authentic Thai food with a focused menu that avoids distractions.

Upon entering, the Thai-themed decor, complete with a tuk-tuk at the entrance, creates a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere. The seating is comfortable and the lighting is excellent, setting the stage for an enjoyable meal. The menu highlights popular Thai dishes, which is a promising sign that the restaurant is committed to doing what it does best.

The Food While waiting for my appetizer, I was intrigued by the array of condiments on each table, which included granulated sugar, white vinegar, spicy fish sauce, toasted dry chili peppers, chili powder, and chili oil. This thoughtful touch allows diners to customize their dishes to their preferred level of spice and flavour.

I started my meal with the spring rolls, which were served cut in half. While the flavour was decent, the filling was a bit mushy and the cabbage tasted steamed. I would rate this dish a 4/10 and feel it has potential for improvement.

For my main course, I ordered the Pad Thai, which did not disappoint. The dish lived up to its promise of being made with a homemade tamarind sauce and no ketchup, which delivered a perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and sour flavours. The ingredients were fresh and the option to adjust the spice level with the table-side condiments was a great feature. I would confidently give the Pad Thai an 8/10.

The Service A Major Area for Improvement While the food was a mixed but generally positive experience, the service left much to be desired. From the very beginning, the service was severely lacking. I was not even acknowledged upon entering and had to seek out a staff member to be seated. This lack of initial attention set a negative tone for the entire meal. The most significant issue was the timing of the dishes. Despite confirming that I wanted my appetizer first, the Pad Thai was delivered before I had finished my spring rolls, which was a clear misstep and a major turn-off. To make matters worse, throughout the meal, the staff did not check in on me even once. I had to wait a significant amount of time just to get their attention to pay the bill. I understand that the staff may have been busy with other tables, including a party of eight, but attentive service is the hallmark of a great restaurant. The ability to manage multiple tables effectively is a fundamental part of the job, and it was a skill that seemed to be missing here.

Overall More Thai has a solid foundation with its authentic and flavourful main dishes. The Pad Thai was a standout and a highlight of the meal. However, the service needs considerable improvement to match the quality of the food. Better training on timing dishes and providing attentive service would go a long way in making the dining experience truly great. I hope they can address these issues, as the food has the potential to make this...

UPDATE: Went back to try their pad ga prao and honestly, I'm confused. Either they made a mistake or this is how they actually make it, but what showed up was nothing like authentic pad ga prao. For context, pad ga prao (or pad kra pao) is supposed to be a simple stir-fry of ground meat with holy basil, served with rice and typically topped with a crispy fried egg. The ground meat should be cooked over high heat, breaking it up into small bits and allowing it to crisp up. It's one of Thailand's most popular street food dishes and the holy basil is what gives it that distinctive, slightly peppery flavor.

What they served me was wet, saucy braised beef slices with a ton of bamboo shoots instead of the slightly dry stir-fried ground beef and basil you'd expect from traditional pad ga prao. You can barely taste any basil at all—which is literally the star ingredient of the dish. I'm attaching the photo of the dish from their menu below for reference.

Look, it tastes fine for what it is, but it's just disappointing when your expectations don't match reality. When you order pad ga prao, you're expecting that specific combination of crispy ground meat, fragrant holy basil, and that signature wok hei flavor. This was more like a random beef stir-fry that happened to have the wrong name.

Maybe they should update their menu or clarify what they're actually serving because this isn't really pad ga prao by any traditional standard.

The Khao Soi is legit. Honestly, might not need to mission downtown for it anymore. The broth is on point and it comes with all the crunchy stuff you're supposed to add in. Their chili oil is next level, too—actually has a kick. If you're gonna get one thing, make it that.

We also grabbed the cashew nut chicken. It's what you'd expect, but like, a good version. Crispy chicken, solid sauce, does the job. No complaints.

Washed it all down with a Cha Yen. Tasted pretty much like the ones in BKK, so they're doing something right. It's sweet, creamy, all that.

All in all, still a good find for Port Credit. The other stuff is solid and it'll definitely be in the rotation for takeout, just maybe skip the pad ga prao unless you're cool with getting something completely different than what...

I have already been to location a couple of times since they’ve opened. First time I went I got the Penang curry, which was good. I do wish that they would add Massaman curry to the menu, since that is my favourite Thai curry. The disappointment came when I ordered the pad kra pao. They had brought me the dish to the table and I was confused because I was like “this does not look like the photos”, and I order this dish at other Thai restaurants. The server had offered to bring me another dish of my liking since I was not very happy. I ended up just saying it was OK and tried it. It wasn’t bad, but it just wasn’t what I was expecting in terms of the dish. I really think that they should update their photos or start serving the dish as how it’s pictured in their menu. I really feel like this is false advertising. I unfortunately didn’t take a photo of the dish just based on how upset I was about it. I think I’ll just stick to going to Thai Barn Na for...
