I've started to not review places until I have visited twice, and I am glad I did here.
My first visit (last fall) was excellent. Service, food, and everything was perfect.
Unfortunately, our recent visit this past weekend was one of the worst restaurant experiences (in terms of service) that I can remember ever having, and I don't think I would return to this Montana's because of it. If I do return, it surely won't be anytime soon. Below I will leave details on my food and service experience.
Food: My personal food was excellent. Chicken burger and fries were both cooked perfectly, and tasted great! Unfortunately, there was an issue with a group members order. There was a hair in her baked potato, and the replacement potato came back quite quickly, but cold. It took a while for us to flag someone down to help fix that original hair situation.
Overall the rest of the food others had was quite good (they said).
Service: This was by far the biggest issue. The name of our server was Jules or Julie (can't exactly remember, mid 30's). She came over pretty quickly after we were seated (which was great) and took our drink order. We were with my partners father (around 70), and he has poor eyesight and has to wear hearing aids. He was looking at the menu trying to decide what to order and it took him about 10-15 seconds to choose his drink (he was not rude about it). She was VISIBLY upset by that and rolled her eyes and sighed and changed her physical stance. I've never seen a server react like that. I'm not sure if she was joking, but she was NOT acting like it at all. Her responses from that point on were very short and a bit rude to his questions. She was clearly annoyed that he was struggling. You could tell her time felt wasted.
I understand the place was busy, and she was busy, but you cannot take our your work frustration/stress out on customers. Especially ones that may be struggling a bit because of age. I'm sure this situation happens all the time with the elderly, and if I was a server I would be annoyed as well, but I surely would never visibly show it the way she did.
We were there for almost 2 hours because service was so slow, and each time she came back there were points of rudeness (except at the end during payment). She was extremely busy and the place felt very understaffed in general. I don't blame her for being stressed, and maybe management should offer some more support and additional staff, but there cannot be staff visibly becoming annoyed at people, especially elderly people, while taking their order. Her attitude was initially terrible. We almost asked to speak to the manager on staff right from the drink order.
I think the fault falls on that server, as well as management for not having enough proper staff working. We even heard the table behind us complaining.
There are some things in life you can control and some things you can't. The server cannot control how busy she is, but she can control the way she treats people. If she does not have the patience, social awareness or respect to work in the service industry, then she should not be there. Everybody has bad days, and maybe she was having one, but that is not an excuse to treat people poorly (at work or outside).
My partners father is a very blunt man, and if he had of caught any of the rudeness coming from her he would have called her out immediately and it would have been awkward for us, her, and every table around us. The only reason he didn't realize is because of his poor hearing, and head down being focused on the menu, etc.
If I were the manager of this location, I would sit her down and have a conversation with her. Ask her what her biggest work stressors are that affect her attitude and discuss how we (Montana's) can alleviate them from a management perspective. Have an open conversation. However, I would make it explicitly clear that being rude to customers is completely unacceptable and attitude like above is childish and unwelcome. But, I am not the manager of this location, so I leave this review and pass...
Read moreI've been to Montana's a couple times before and it is a brand name chain restaurant with a western BBQ theme. I had mentioned to my new Fiancé that I would love a good steak dinner for my birthday, and she totally surprised me by taking me to the Montana's in Moncton. Previously I have experienced long wait times to get into Montana's, but this time I was pleasently pleased to be able to walk in and request a booth, and one was cleaned for us right away, maybe a 5 mins wait which was completely acceptable. I always request a booth if available, for the privacy and ambiance. I was a little taken aback when they seated another couple directly accross from us, when many other booths were available. I could hear their conversation loud and clear without trying to listen, even to the point of drowning out my conversation with my Fiance.. so I know they could hear us as well. With there being soo many tables available, I would have thought the hostess would spread us out more, but from their standpoint, It is probably easier for them to group us all together. That was a minor point I've seen happen in many restaurants, and didn't ruin my experience. We were offered drinks right away, I always get diet pop and most chain restaurants offer free refills as did this one. We ordered our food quickly and being steak, I assumed it would take some time to cook. I find medium perfect, not too bloody like medium rare and not overcooked like medium well. It did take a reasonable amount of time to get our meal, but gave us time to chat, and we were in no hurry, It was my birthday afterall, so I was taking it all in. Usually they have sports on, but tonight the American Music awards were playing on the TV, but the house mucic was playing over the speakers which was all we could hear, and the sound system was very good.. I enjoy good thumbing bass and it wasn't overwhelming or obtrusive. When the food arrived, I was excited to dig in, as it's been a long time since I had a good steak at a nice restaurant. My Fiancé had chicken and I had the steak event, I upgraded to a 10 oz steak vs the basic 7 oz steak for an extra $5.00 which I thought was reasonable. I usually order fries, but must not have specified fries because I recieved patatoes au gratin, which was delicious. I was offered baked beans or Coleslaw.. I always go for the coleslaw as it is hard to find a good coleslaw in the grocery stores.. but I should have paid extra to get both. The steak was a perfect medium, just pink in the middle and nicely seared on the top and bottom.. It wasn't melt in my mouth soft like butter, but tasted great and I wished it was a little bigger like 12 oz. Montana's is not cheap, but acceptable as an occasional birthday treat. I would definitely recommend Montana's for an Adult night out, If kids were involved I would recommend Boston Pizza or East side Marios. My dinner included 4 little sugar coated donuts with a toffe like dipping sauce... they were good, but just not enough, so my Fiancé got the apple friiter topped with ice cream, that was to die for, I enjoy the ambiance of Montana's, the interior is very interesting built like an old barn, even has a chevy truck mounted in the rafters. I was very happy...
Read moreLeaving a disappointing review for Montanas Moncton. Sept 1, 2025.
I called and made a reservation for 10 people and shared on the reservation with the host that it was my 8 year olds birthday.
We arrived ten minutes prior to the reservation and they were cleaning our table (which is fine). I shared with the staff again that it was my 8 year olds birthday.
When we were being walked to the table the hostest said they would bring a hat and sing later on.
Meanwhile my 8 year old watched another girl get sung to by staff with cake & candles and had pictures taken at the table directly next to us, as he is saying its my birthday too with extreme excitement.
When we were ordering our desert the host stated kids meals come with desert.
We stated that was fine but we were still going to order him cake as it is his birthday, (stating this for the third time).
Multiple people from our group also ordered the chocolate cake and we all were telling the host my son wanted us to have cake together as it was his birthday.
Desert comes around after being there for two hours and nothing happens. (At this time there is barely anyone left in the restaurant).
We took it amongst our group to sing happy birthday to him and the staff just watched from the distance.
We left $360.00 later and he did not get sung to or even get the birthday throw away hat. I asked three separate times for and our service was subpar, not the best and not the worst.
We have dined here quite a few times but this by far was the most disappointing especially for a birthday supper for my son!
It felt like we were basically begging for something so small and silly, but to my special needs 8 year old it mattered. It was such a...
