I'm a fan of Allo mon Coco for their crêpes and go there often alone and with family, this is the first time I've been to the one at place vertu since I was in the area. They did not disappoint with the crêpes, as they came quickly and were very good. However, the service was genuinely awful and ridiculous. I waited 15 minutes to be seated (I was eating alone) and when someone finally came to bring me in, they walked me in circles around the restaurant for 2 minutes looking for a seat. The waitress that served me was a white woman maybe in her 30s and had bleached hair. She took 20 minutes to bring me the bill after I had requested it. With such long wait times, I didn't tip. Mind you, she had only brought me a smoothie and my crêpes were served by another gentleman, I was also seated and greeted by another waitress, as well as brought water by another waitress. This woman proceeds to tell me I didn't tip and told me it was standard to tip 15% since I received service from her. She asked me FIVE TIMES to tip and even told me she would make an EXTRA TRANSACTION for me to tip on a 25 DOLLAR MEAL. Her reasoning behind deserve the tip was because she "brought me my milkshake." Was I supposed to go get it from the kitchen myself? I told her exactly what I wanted and asked no questions, she did not provide any "service". I don't know where she got the audacity to confront me and persist over 5 times to get a, what? 3$ tip??? Absolute entitlement. FYI no, they weren't busy and yes, she only took my order and brought me the receipt after 20 minutes. (No seating, no water, no utensils, no greeting, didn't bring me the menu or the food (it was...
Read moreI've been coming to this Allo Mon Coco for years but I think today will be my last time.
It's too bad because the service from our waiter Julian was excellent.
Service was quick, from both the waiter and the kitchen. I have celiac and Julian was quick to tell me what my options were.
Here were my two issues. I order the cheese and spinach omelette, and it wasn't cooked enough. The cheese wasn't melted at all and I could've picked up each individual piece of grated cheese. I let it pass because I was hungry and I wouldn't have even mentioned it in this review if it weren't for the second issue.
Second issue is the $2 charge for take out containers. What?? So you mean to tell me that I need to pay to take my own food home - and this isn't mentioned anywhere?? No signs, no mention in the menu, nothing. Yeah I get that we should be taking care of the environment and should bring our own Tupperware etc etc, but the answer isn't unexpectedly charging clients $2 for a take out container that's made of flimsy plastic that can't be recycled or even put in a microwave, and will end up in a landfill somewhere anyway.
Shout out to all the wait staff there who have to deal with customers that will be extremely ticked off about this. You have to tell your clients. If I saw a sign somewhere I would just remember for next time to bring a container (because I never finish my food).
They've lost me as a regular customer, and I've already shared this to my FB so I'm sure a lot of friends won't go there, either. And after reading some of the comments, it's really too bad. They're just lucky that the food court at Place Vertu has very...
Read moreRead moreWe had breakfast today at our favourite neighborhood AMCoco, service was generally fine and atmosphere as we remembered it, as we hadn’t been here in a while. 3 of us with two breakfasts that were good as usual… the other was a lunch special that we’ve ordered many times before but for the first time it came out different. Club sandwich special; The salad, soup, and coffee were fine. Usually the fries are perfectly cooked for frozen fries, and their club is really good, with fresh roasted Iike chicken… for the first time the fries were off, seemed like refried French fries - you know that taste and texture. And the main meal which we were looking forward to was off. Instead of the normally juicy bbqued like pieces of chicken it is now heavily coated with spices and had an orangish tint to it… maybe covering a cheap piece of meat? Or trying too hard to make something taste better when the classic taste was very good. We explained to our waitress, she was actually fine and reasonably pleasant, but only answered with an, “I’m sorry,” apology and moved on. Regardless of getting anything or offering anything, a better conversation and explanation would have sufficed… we thought, perhaps it’s the first (lunch) order syndrome - leftovers being repurposed?! Wanted to have a nice relaxing meal and conversation, instead left a poor taste in our mouths, literally and figuratively, will not order this way again… if we ever...
