Oh boy, how do you start? Go early, worth the wait in line and buy just a bit more than you think you should. We ate one croissant just outside the door, at a table they provide, no inside seating, so as it gets colder you may want a coffee shop in mind to bring these jewels. We bought a ginger cookie $2.35 (I would hold off on the cookies and put your money on the bread, croissants or to die for quiche), the cookie was tasty and good but held up against the items we purchased...nope! I'd go back for the bread. The Light, fluffy, crunchy, crusty croissant $1.75. I believe they use rice flour...double yum! We bought another croissant-like pastry (I forgot the name) it is seasonal with apples. Perfect for autumn! the bread we decided on is only available Tues/Thus/Sat - Khorasan blueberries + candied ginger $ 5.50 Made from Milanese white organic Khorasan flour, water, sea salt, yeast, blueberries + candied ginger, we toasted at home with lightly salted butter...yum! The quiche was so creamy, thick, cheesy but not over powering. The gentleman that helped us with our order helped us decide on the quiche and so happy he told us about this vegetarian item. Go early. Enjoy! Less than 15 minutes was worth the wait!

Automne Boulangerie is a small, intimate bakery with a cozy neighborhood feel—often mentioned as having some of the best croissants in Montreal. We visited on a Sunday around 3 p.m., and unfortunately, the croissants and tarts were already sold out. The only items left were a few cookies and a chocolatine (pain au chocolat), so I ordered the chocolatine for $3.75 CAD. The bakery itself is very compact. Inside, there aren’t tables for sitting, just a small counter to stand at, but there are a few outdoor tables right by the door. The staff were friendly and helpful in explaining the items available. They also mentioned that weekends usually bring more variety, including fruit tarts, while weekdays focus mainly on croissants. The chocolatine I tried was good—crispy on the outside, soft and tender inside, exactly what you’d expect from a quality bakery. I wouldn’t say it was the best I’ve ever had, but it was still enjoyable. If you’re in the neighborhood, Automne Boulangerie is worth a visit, especially earlier in the day or on a weekend to get the full range of their croissants and tarts.

Fantastic bread! I have had their batard and croissants in other places in the city (cafes and restaurants) so I decided to go in person. As an amateur sourdough baker myself I can really taste the craftsmanship and experience behind their sourdough based breads. Very well developed crumb and good fermentation. They definitely gave the dough the time it needs to develop flavour. Their croissants are also great. I often bring a batch to my office to share amongst colleagues and it’s always a well appreciated treat. There is some variability in the product and I have had very few that are a bit eggier than others, but that’s to be expected in anything handmade. Nothing I would fault them for and I still very much enjoy them regardless. At their worst they still compete for some of the best croissants I have had. I also enjoy the more fun breads they make as daily specials. The picture is of one with candied ginger and blueberry confit. Just fun to try something new. Great price point for the quality and size of bread you get. Definitely worth the trip if you like good bread.

Automne's ordering process for a simple croissant involves two checkpoints and 3 tablets, which takes around 3-5 minutes to complete (sometimes, inexplicably, longer), making the checkout process way too long. That doesn't factor in the wait time in line. To be very clear, anything you can buy is already made and sitting on the table or on racks. Nothing is made to order. Before I go on, should also note that although their products are made with quality ingredients, there is nothing that is worth this hassle.

Here's the process:

To place an order, you have to inform the first person at the first checkpoint about your order, who then enters it into a tablet. Once they enter your order, instead of preparing and packaging it, they send you to the next person three feet away. However, if you reach the second person too quickly, they might not have received your order yet.

The second person eventually confirms your order and asks for payment. After that, a third person prepares your croissant (or whatever) to go, and if you have ordered something with variations like muffins, they might get confused and mess up your order, as they look similar, or the first person might have entered it incorrectly and so there is now a disconnect in getting the item you pointed out in front of that first person when you initially placed the order.

Before handing you your order, they need to swipe on a third tablet to indicate that your order is complete.

This whole process is a pain and not worth the wait. Again, they don't produce anything that is worth this hassle. I won't even get into how much worse this is if you order a coffee. I know for a fact that most patrons just shrug and tolerate it, but it's a shockingly inefficient process that they should correct. Not for my sake, I won't...
