Bistro Chez Roger — Restaurant in Montreal

BEST Fish & Chips I've ever had. I've been searching for more than a decade for a satisfying Fish & Chips, ever since my first taste in a Massachusetts restaurant, and almost all following attempts have disappointed, until now.

The golden batter was very crispy and generous, cocooning the fluffy, fresh haddock inside. The tartar sauce is a yummy spark of originality with its dill pickle bits, so of course I had an extra, as a dip for the fries. These brown potato logs were most comforting, and the side of tangy coleslaw is the best I've ever tasted, which is surprising, since I usually prefer the creamy style. Paired with a fancier & spicier Ginger Beer than the average fare (brand: The Great Gentleman), this meal was a mood enhancer in a previously numb day. The service was friendly and informative. Sitting at the counter, I appreciated the expertise and energy the staff placed in preparing each of our meals.

I only have two regrets about this place: •I should have tried this restaurant way earlier, during the 20 years I've been shopping in the area. •They aren't open in the afternoon, which for me would be ideal to avoid the crowds. The food is so good though, I'll make sure to build up...

Came here for MTL a table, arriving at 7:30pm, came out at 10:20pm. Food was a little above average, steak was very tender, but our server was very slow. Like, very slow. I didn’t see my first meal after 1h20m. We did tell the server and he admitted he forgot our dishes at counter, and didn’t charge our drink as apologies—we had to remind him while paying because he still added to our bills—but be aware if you didn’t expect spending 3 hours for dinner. Onion soup wasn’t hot but tasty, and cream bulee was too sweet. (This is personal taste, not trying to blame the restaurant). Overall this is a one time experience for me and friends.

This review is for Chez Roger "the pub", not the restaurant. I've been sitting there for 5-10 minute and the waitress never came to see me until I establish eye contact. I asked for a beer on tap and glass of water but never served me. She served other table in the meantime, walking by me. When I got up, pack and leave because I dont get service, she didn't bother to ask talk to me. She spent most of her time chatting with the bartender. Salmon coloured shirt on May 16 10pm.
