TLDR: Bad service, overly salty foods, ignored for most of the night, no one addressed anything when brought up, way overpriced food. DO NOT RECOMMEND for any situation.

Very disappointing. Our mains took nearly an hour to come out after our appetizer had arrived. Waiter only apologized after our food came and we had already started eating. We felt ignored all night, but didn't want to let bad service ruin the dinner.

We ordered the duck confit, which I usually love. Unfortunately, this duck confit here was so salty it felt like a mistake. My cousin ordered the same thing and also found it overly salty. We couldn't even bring it to the waiter's attention as he kept tending to other tables and never once came by. The greens portion of our charcuterie board was also too salty.

When we finished our meals without any luck flagging down our waiter, (the plates were cleared by someone else) we waited around again before he finally came over to drop off dessert menus. We looked but we all decided to decline; but my cousin wanted a coffee. Waiter was nowhere to be found. We decided it just wasn't worth any more time to stay here for the coffee so when we got ahold of him, we said just to bring the bill. Finally sensing our frustrations, he asked if everything was ok. We shared how long everything took and the over-salted food. He apologized and said he would speak with the owner. There was no further follow up and response offered. Nothing was addressed. He brought the bill and we just wanted to get out there.

I don't recommend coming here. There are way better options for French food around Montreal. Save your time and money and don't get disappointed for no reason. For the price, nothing here was worth it. Certainly not...

Unacceptable Service and Management

We came to Brasserie Bernard specifically for the oysters and were ready to order 4 to 6 dozen. Our waitress told us they were running low and could only offer 2 dozen. Disappointing, but fine — things happen. What’s not acceptable is that we were served less than 1 dozen without any notice or explanation. No one told us. We only found out from someone in the kitchen.

We had ordered a bottle of white wine specifically to pair with the oysters — which made absolutely no sense once we realized how few we were actually getting.

When we tried to speak with the manager, the situation went from disappointing to downright insulting. She was incredibly rude, condescending, and dismissive. Her exact words were, “I can’t make oysters come out of thin air,” and she made a half-hearted offer to send us somewhere else — knowing full well it was too late. After that, she avoided our table completely. No apology, no explanation, no attempt to make things right.

This place clearly doesn’t value its customers or take accountability. We left feeling ignored and insulted. We will never be returning — and we’ll be sure to let others know to...

When she seated us, the hostess emphasized that our reservation was only for 2 hrs 15 mins. This should not have been a problem since we had arrived right on time. The server finally took our food order 1 hr later, at which time we reminded her that we still didn't have all our drinks. After another 45 mins and two inquiries about our order, the server and hostess explained that there had been a mix-up in the kitchen. This seemed like a convenient excuse, given that the food quality was quite good and the plating precise. Whatever the cause, we sat at the table for 2 hrs before food actually arrived, and we considered leaving several times (like another party seated in our section did).

They offered to comp us a round of drinks and the appetizers, but not all of this translated to the bill when we finally paid - nearly 4 hrs after being seated. To show how overwhelmed the waitstaff was, they served a crême brulée with forks...

The worst part of this experience was that the server did nothing to actively make up for the mistake. She was downright ambivalent and obviously gave up on our table, no doubt realizing that she had...

One of my favourite restaurants in the city! Nestled just outside the business of downtown Montreal in the corner of Outremont is this gem of a restaurant (parking is certainly more accessible than going downtown! ) The ambiance is beautiful and the service is friendly, professional and efficient. As a huge fan of seafood I've indulged in some of the most appreciated dishes I have come by: seabass, salmon, oysters and in true brasserie style, their delicious fish and chips (and considering the Mile End has several incredible seafood spots this is saying alot!) As a professional cheesemonger I must also mention their cheese selection is nice. Local cheeses from Quebec and usually an offering of a variety of milks; I was proud to see Hercule from Laiterie Charlevoix (cow milk) and as well as Pave de L'Atelier (one of the artisanal goat cheese makers in St Elizabeth de Warwick) Long story short, indulge at this amazing restaurant!

One of the best meals I have had in Montreal. The food was amazing from beginning to end. We started off with the octopus and the oysters. The oysters were so fresh And the octopus was cooked to perfection ; Accompanying the octopus with the olives and tomatoes was very complementary. I had the halibut special and my partner had the hanger steak . It came with mashed potatoes, which were the most delicious we have ever had. The halibut was so flavorful. The portions were perfect, although I wish they were bigger only because I just did not want to end… We ate every morsel on our plate. The service was OK though… Extremely slow and our waiter disappeared for so long. We did not get our drinks until close to the end of our meal… That was disappointing. Other than that, I definitely recommend this place and when I am back in Montreal, I will be coming here again .
