During my stay in Montreal, I ate at Breizh café twice. The first time, I was quite impressed with the food. Breizh café has a course menu where I can choose a starter, savory, and sweet crepe for $27. I ordered the soup du jour, which was a parsnip vegetable soup, the smoked salmon, swiss cheese, and spinach crepe, and the Belgian chocolate crepe. The soup du jour was hearty and flavorful. It was hands down one of the best vegetable soups I’ve had. The smoked salmon, swiss, and spinach crepe came in a buckwheat crepe, which had a good texture to it. Lastly, the Belgian chocolate crepe was quite sweet and rich for my liking, but the first few bites were still enjoyable. Because of my enjoyable first experience, I decided to go back a second time. This time, the restaurant was busy and looked heavily understaffed. It was a Saturday so I was confused as to why it was understaffed. That being said, I waited for 20 minutes before I had my order taken. When our waiter finally came, I ordered the French Onion Soup, the tomato and goat cheese crepe, and the apple cinnamon dessert crepe. Then I waited 30 minutes for the French onion soup alone, 40 more minutes for the savory crepe and another 30 more minutes for the dessert crepe following the savory crepe. In addition, our waiter never cared to check on our table and just ignored us every time he walked past. Regarding the food, the French onion soup was salty and watery but bland in terms of flavor from the beef stock and onions. It was one of the more mediocre French onion soups I’ve had, and I’d expect much better from a creperie in Montreal. The tomato and goat cheese buckwheat crepe was bland, dry and cold, as if it was sitting in the pass for an extended period of time, and the apple cinnamon crepe also came cold. Overall, my second visit to Breizh café consisted of long wait times and inconsistent food, and thus was a major disappointment. It was evident that the restaurant being understaffed on a Saturday affected both customer service and...
Read moreReally nice place with a warm, cozy European café feel. I came around 1 on Friday and they were only about half full - it’s a relatively small restaurant but there’s a seating area in the back which makes it bigger than it looks. The narrowness of it adds to the charm, makes it a little more intimate. From my table I could sort of see into the kitchen. I had a cappuccino, L’océane (savoury seafood crepe), and the Far Breton. I liked how the cappuccino was dusted with cocoa powder. The espresso (I had decaf) was a little bitter but in a sort of pleasant way. I didn’t see it on the menu, but I asked about non-dairy milks and they do have almond milk, which is what I got. The crêpe was very good! I think I’ve had some pretty good crêpes but the presentation of this was different from anything I’ve tried before (fourth time in Montréal but it was my first Montréal crêpe). The scallops and salmon were very fresh and the creamed leek sauce went so well with the seafood. Only two scallops on the regular size crêpe which didn’t look like much, but I cut them up and they went a long way. And I loved the lacey texture and flavour of the crêpe! I came for the crêpe but was also really excited to try the Far Breton. I love custardy desserts like this! The prunes at the bottom were cooked to a syrupy consistency which was so good. My waitress was very nice and always came by at just the right time to fill water or take my order. My drink and dessert came out pretty quickly, the crêpe took a bit longer. I might’ve started to get impatient if it had taken any longer than it did, but as it was I think the wait time was acceptable - they're a small kitchen and making crepes can be...
Read moreVery strange management. We were greeted by a young woman who told us there is no place available for at least 40 minutes and suggested to go elsewhere. We realized that some people were finished eating and we decided to wait. After waiting 6 to 7 minutes, we were seated. The service was bad so i decided to leave only 10% tip. Once i was at the cash to pay, the employee decided that i had to leave 15% and tried to keep my change as a tip. The owner and the employees are from France and the place is being run as if it is in France. I was surprised from the attitude of employees and i called the owner to find out the reason behind his employees strange behaviour and only to find out that those instructions were coming from the owner. The owner told me that he doesn't want people waiting for a table.....!!! When you go to any restaurant and you don't feel a good vibe from the employees at the door or the restaurant itself, just walk out. It is not only your money that you lose. Money is the last thing. You lose your valuable time, you feel surrounded with bad energy, you may alao end up eating food that you...
