So we recently moved form Berlin and live very close to Café Saint-Henri's location right near Parc Jarry.
A bit of background: I have written for years about coffee and cafés and have traveled over three million miles drinking coffee all over the world. Not a humblebrag, just fact to give my review some context.
This café (again, I have only been to this shop of theirs) is borderline world-class. In a city with some superb coffee options, you can never go wrong coming here. Let's look some some (mostly) pros and (very few) cons:
The pros:
So my drink is an allongée. I have had it here made by several of their baristas. It is always close to use focal, a sign of a good café. The coffee is always fresh (they have a roastery onsite).
Their chocolate amandine viennoiserie is as good as the top-tier pasties I have had in Paris over may works trips this decade. Like REALLY good. I inquired as to where they buy the pastries and was really impressed to learn that they bake them everyday in another one of their cafés in the city (on rue Masson) where they are then delivered fresh to their other cafés.
The service is generally solid. It varies a bit but the staff are nice. Everyone who works there seems willing to speak English or French.
Another huge pro is that this café is stunning. The look is fantastic - a mix between great workspace (if we ever again work in cafés), roastery, sales area for beans and mylk, and the service area.
One more pro is that they have a fridge with some food that, again, their company prepares. The tofu quinoa salad is truly superb. I would personally substitute a creamy dressing over the vinaigrette but this is a must. They also have wonderful fresh sandwiches that are more filling than they seem.
The cons:
Not many, to be honest.
Not all of their baked goods are anywhere near as delicious as the chocolate amandine. For example, the date (?) square is a flavorless brick. The cookies are pretty good. If you're hungry, you honestly can't go wrong with the vast majority of their baked goods.
Overall:
If you're anywhere near the area, Café Saint-Henri Villeray on Mile End is an absolute must. It's a stellar neighborhood café bit so much more. It's easy to become desensitized to greatness when it is literally outside your front door, but this café is better than almost anything within at least...
Read moreThis was a good place until today. Friday at 3pm we were welcomed by an employee named Camille - a woman with dark hair. We have been here several times with our dog, they even have a dog bowl on the floor. I went to leave my bag on the table while we ordered and saw another dog at the top. Our dog is service dog that is fully trained and on every occasion that we’ve been here it’s never been an issue. Today she told us we couldn’t be here with the dog. We asked why? We have been here before and there is another dog literally sitting at the top. Our dog is a pit mix and extremely friendly and quiet. She discriminated against us and this is highly unacceptable. When told about the other dog she said oh it’s a small dog. This is after she said no dogs allowed because of the MAPAC regulation. Of course she noticed and corrected herself and said i will tell them. We waited outside on the chairs for over an hour. The other dog never left. Discrimination at it’s finest. Adding a picture so you see this. We understand the laws (many years in the profession) but don’t have...
Read moreI was invited to a latte art class at Café Saint-Henri—and let me tell you, it was the perfect blend of cozy vibes and cool coffee culture.
The space? Absolutely gorgeous. Spacious and minimalist, with plenty of natural light, sleek stone surfaces, and just enough greenery to keep things feeling fresh. It’s the kind of café where you can truly settle in—whether you’re solo-working, catching up with a friend, or (like me) trying your hand at some latte art.
For the class, we used their Holy Cow Guatemalan espresso blend—and wow. Smooth and complex, with notes of caramel, black cherry, and cocoa that linger beautifully. Honestly? I’d drink it straight—no milk needed.
I’m definitely heading back soon to explore the rest of their menu.
I spotlight my favorite local gems on TikTok @foxy.appetite and IG @foxyappetite—and this one...
