I tried a long espresso, Nutella croissant, and a carrot cake square in honor of National Carrot Cake Day. The espresso was rich and smooth, with a well-balanced flavor and a nice crema. The Nutella croissant was light, flaky, and generously filled with creamy Nutella, making it a delicious, sweet treat. I've been there twice now. I so far had good service, enjoyed my coffees to go. I take mine black so I can say from the get-go that the coffees I've had so far were good. Full-bodied, not burnt, acidy, watery, not too strong, just good for the price, and I always felt satisfied with the cup. I have a couple of small discrepancies however. I dislike that their pay machines don't allow the tap cards. With all the Van Houtte coffee and merch everywhere I'd figure they'd have the budget to stick with the times, so that's an iffy. And today at the bottom of my cup were a bunch of nice, well-soaked coffee grinds. I spent about 5 minutes after finishing my cup just working all the grinds out of my mouth on my way home. Worst Van Houte I've ever been to. Service is slow and inefficient, takes forever to get what you need. I understand this is a super busy location being next to the metro, but there were 4 people behind the counter(+ 1 manager), and all working at a snail pace. I spent 10 min waiting to pay for my waffle that I could just grab off of the counter (no prep needed), and there were only 2 people in front of me.
