Authentic and unpretentious

This is a great local spot for Mexican food. They have all the best items, like chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, tacos, as well as some adapted to a more international public, at a very reasonable price. The place is small and can feel a bit run down, however in my opinion that is its charm! The workers are all Latin and the cashier (owner maybe?) is super nice and service is fast! It’s filled with local Latin costumers, so it’s definitely legit! They also have a little shop of Mexican goodies! On top of nice the neighborhood is very nice!

Highly recommend the huevos rancheros, chilaquiles and hot chocolate. Definitely coming back!

(My only complain would be that the sauces are lacking spice, but they do give you some suave...

I'm so torned. On one hand, I really wish their business do so well and they make lots of money cuz they deserve it--their chicken burrito is a gift from heaven, and the cashier lady is always nice whenever I go, whatever you order there it won't disappoint; On the other hand, I selfishly worry about what if they got too popular one day that I have to make reservations 3 weeks ahead?! Or what if they became so famous that they open chains all over the world to bless the mankind with their heavenly food, and they became billionaires so they don't need to run this little cute intimate location anymore?! I cannot decide what I truly desire. So I'll just leave a 5 star review here while enjoying my delicious guacamole, and let God decide the odds....

Changing review from 5 to 1 star

I ate here almost on weekly basis during several months in 2023. Unfortunately, the quality declined A LOT. The portions also were reduced. After 2 consecutive visits in which the chicken was bad in the enchiladas, I stopped going.

It’s unfortunate that small business cannot value returning clients. The lady taking order even knew my name and my usual order so if she knew something was not fresh, I’d have appreciated that they would let me know.

—- Small space inside but clean, prices are affordable and menu offers something for everyone. There are specials including soup, salad or fries. A great addition to this area where there are many overpriced restaurants. Will definitely return to try...

I was very intrigued when I first heard about this place because it had opened up on the same block as Tacos Frida and is a direct competitor to them. Although Cinco de Mayo is not as large, it offers a great menu with selections for both vegetarian and meat eaters. The chips were served beautifully, arranged in a multi-pointed star with a generous amount of guac. The tacos you get are filled to the brim and I think the serving size is larger than at tacos frida. I enjoyed what I had, but prefer bean tacos more. If you like cactus, this is the place for you. The meat tacos thoroughly impressed my friend. All in all, this restaurant is a fantastic addition to Montréal’s limited Mexican scene and the service you receive here is very homey.

One of my favorite restaurants in Montreal, I work in the area and have to practically restrain myself from going everyday! Service is always great and fast and food is delicious and fresh every time! My go to is usually the tacos honestly I've tried most of the proteins and I've yet to try one I didn't like, though conchintas is one of my faves super simple but delicious. I tried their enmoladas for the first time today and WOW the Mole was so flavorful and complex and had the perfect amount of heat! I usually like to gatekeep my favorite places but they deserve a line out the door! I also love their tortilla soup, so well balanced and not too heavy but filling enough for a small meal.
