I was so excited to go to Taco Victor during my time in MTL. I finally got the chance to visit with a couple of my girlfriends on Saturday July 3,2021. We arrived at about 7:00pm and although it was pretty busy there wasn’t much of a line (we were just behind 1 other gentlemen waiting to be served). Upon entering the restaurant we walked up to a staff member and asked if he had availability for 3. He began speaking in French to us. All 3 of us are English speakers with very little French experience so we politely let him know we only spoke English. Immediately his tone changed and he began muttering to us in French angrily then walked away to get another server. The server he brought over did speak English and told us he was a new hire who wasn’t too experienced but he was willing to help us out and seat us when he could. We waited for about 10 minutes (7:10pm) before the same waiter came and seated us at a table. When we sat down we noticed the paper menus that were on the table were only in French. We called over a different waiter (as our English speaking waiter had left to the backroom) and asked if there was an English menu available. Thankfully, he understood us a bit and said he’d check. We waited another 10 mins (7:20pm) and another waiter came over and brought us waters and straws but the straws were just sitting in his hands...no wrapping no napkin nothing! Literally just holding our straws in the palm of his hand. We also asked him if he could help with the menu but he didn’t speak English. After waiting for over 20 minutes no one came to our table with an English menu, or to even ask if we were ready to order. Mind you, there were at least 5 servers just lounging around the restaurant. We called another server to ask if he could clarify the menu as we didn’t understand and he said sure I’ll be right back. Instead everyone kept avoiding our table. The man who was in line before us was already eating his meal and individuals who came AFTER us were placing their orders by the same waiters who said they would help translate the menu. It was so embarrassing and absolutely disrespectful that we all just got up and walked out (7:35pm). I’ve been to places in completely different countries where English isn’t even a first or second language and received 100X better service than this place offered. DO NOT go here if you only speak English as they AVOID...
Read moreThis was the second time I went to this place. I had a vague memory of the first time I went, that the tacos were pretty dry and flavourless, as noted in some of the reviews here. However, I remember it being pretty darn cheap so I said meh you get what you pay for.
Some friends wanted to catch up yesterday and suggested this place. The atmosphere is chill, nice decor and all that. The waitresses are nice, polite and checked in on us regularly.
The food…………so to start off we ordered a few virgin Caesar’s (trying to cut down the booze lol). They were the saltiest thing I ever ingested in my life. I’m not one to bring things up to waiters. I usually just suck it up and won’t come back if I don’t like something, but I we were all borderline gagging so I had to mention it. She brought it back to the bar, the waitresses even tried the mix he used and they were like woah we’re so sorry….They brought the food out while the bartender was making new caesars. All the tacos were next level salty as well, I’m not sure how we were able to eat even half of our food. When she brought back the second round of Cesar’s, they were slightly less salty but damn. They went from 9.7/10 to a 8.5/10 on the sodium scale… We all joked that we should have just ordered an alcoholic drink, it would have been easier on our bodies. Today my kidneys are in pain from the sodium overload.
What killed us was… as we were leaving, we see the Abuelita who presumably makes the food in the back. She was eating at the bar and going to town on the food with her salt shaker lol!
Coming from someone who likes salty food.. I am never going back there unfortunately.
Perdón Víctor, pero tus tacos están demasiado salado...
Read moreDespite the nice decor and the vibrant environment, this place fails on many counts. Starting with the server who really seemed as though she wanted to be anywhere but at work that day, to the food which was not even possible, tacos Victor was a less than pleasant experience.
We started our night by ordering two mains and two drinks. Our two mains arrived very quickly. Yet, no beverages were served. We asked where the drinks were, and were told there's only one bar man and he's backed up by 15 minutes. We canceled the drinks.
Although we informed the server the ceviche was the large plate, we were served the small portion, and the server insisted it was the large. Yet, on the bill it was billed as a small.
The tortillas served with the ceviche were too thick, oily, and hard as a rock. They were barely edible. The nachos were served with the same tortillas except they had the benefit of picking up some of the moisture from the salsa, and became thick, hard and leathery, and barely edible. Add to this the small amount of barely melted cheese, and the sparse garnish, and these nachos qualify as some of the worst sold in Montreal.
From service to food, the experience at tacos. Victor is something which should only be endured by a masochist. This is a hard pass for me.
Surprisingly, considering the proximity of a number of other Taco joints, you would figure that they would take more care to differentiate themselves by excelling over the neighboring...
