I was there with a friend to catch up on the past five years we spent apart and right from the start, the waiter couldn't help himself but being super flirty even thought we weren't responding to that type of interaction. We would just say "thanks" to his compliments, nothing more. He came to our table more often than necessary, and each time he was just "too much". I could feel he was working for his tips. We ordered sangria first, and when it came, he told us we had to pay right away because the restaurant had been stolen in the past by clients on the terrasse leaving without notice. Since we were going to eat too, I left him my credit card, so the problem was solved. When it was time to pay, we waited but our waiter never came, so we went inside to find him. He told me the price of my sangria (7$) and nachos (13$) outloud without showing me any bill, which I thought was very odd. As I was paying, I recalled that my nachos was 11$ before taxes, which was less than 13$ tax included, and I had no idea what was the price of the sangria. As the waiter gave me my credit card receipt, I asked for the bill. He told me : "hum, it's not yours, but it's the same thing", handing me a random bill for a nachos belonging to someone else. I answered "hum, ok... and what about the sangria? I am self employed and I keep all of my bills, it's important". He said "I didn't print one, but I can go to the bar to get you one". When I told him that he charged me too much, he faked being sorry, admitted his "mistake" and offered to give me 50 cents back (this was only for the nachos, since I had a written proof in front of me. As for the sangria, I still didn't know the real price).
Really? What kind of restaurant/waiter doesn't print the bill before you pay, or round up the bill before they charge you. I read that they also charge different prices depending on where you sit (inside vs outside) and they charge more to Europeans (my friend was from France).
I told that waiter I wasn't buying his "mistake". That according to me, he gave himself some tips by rounding up my bill, thinking I wouldn't notice. Sorry boy, but I know my maths. I told him I was used to give good tips for good and transparent service, and that there was clearly a lack of transparency here. I didn't asked for my money back because I didn't want him to be pissed at me. I wanted him to know he couldn't fool me, and to feel at least a bit stupid to have tried. I...
Read moreI am surprised that those few local people is still going to this place! Visiting Montreal and wanted to give a shot. It is in the heart of the village! I was inside for 1h. First of all, the entire place is ONLY CASH! yes,in 2023, we are flying over the deep universe and have connection with the rover, and at the complexe sky only accept cash!!!! I would understand only cash for the entrance plus the coat cover, but also for drinks it is like that! And of course an ATM machine is right there, beside the cash wrap where you have to pay the cover. Yes handy I do not need to leave the building for some cash, but seriously!? This is of course planned ahead.Looked sketchy to me! Once you get in, you will be sent to the 3rd floor to pay the cover, then you go on the second floor where the majority of people seemed to be! It is not a 3 floors club with all sort of rooms and music. On the second floor there are two different area with two different type of music. The place is smelly, ugly and definitely run down! When people were jumping, the entire floor was shacking! It is was so concerning to the point I thought that the entire building might crash down! Drinks are terrible. A simple vodka soda was cheap, yes, but tasted water! Terrible, terrible, terrible!!!!!!! Demographic was the only think I liked in the way that there was a lot of variation by age, gender and ethnicity! I mean, mostly on some sort of drug considering the typical smell and their chewing! But still The music playlist was ok! Fun and decent level of variation, at the least for the 1h spent there! The Bartender was kind of rude and also, what about if I do not want to tip???? He pointed to the dirty and sticky menu that tips are not included in the bill and pretty much, “told” us to tip. Please, look for better place there in the village, there...
Read moreThis place is a shell of its former self from 5-6 years ago. I went with some friends for the first time since before COVID and boy have things changed for the worst.
TLDR version: Sky has become a rip off, has lost its gay status, and has made every wrong business decision you can think of.
Incredibly rude bouncer: While we were in line to wait get inside I asked politely if there was a smoking area on the terrace, like Unity has, and the bouncer told me very rudely that if they catch me smoking upstairs that they would throw me out. He also added a «tokebakicite» knowing that I was French and assuming I didn’t know the laws here, even though I’ve been living here for 8 years. 4$ cover, when there never used to be one, and mandatory coat check for even light jackets, which never used to be the case. I get that with COVID there’s been lost revenue, but it feels like a very cheap way to extract every penny off of you when simply raising the drink prices would have been enough. Outdated music being played, think like top 40 hits from 6-7 years ago, that feels more fitting of a lame straight club for douchey people. Obvious straight men luring after women which ruins the idea of a gay club being a safe space (not even sure you can count Sky as a gay club anymore due to how many straight people go there now). If you want to smoke outside you have to get in line again, even if you are wearing the bracelet they hand you upon paying the cover fee (what’s the point of a bracelet if you need to wait in line anyway?)
I thought visiting it again after quite some time would have been a pleasant outing for old times sake, now it’s clear I will never set foot there again as long as management keeps repeating the same mistakes. Don’t go there for the time being, let them pay for...
