Small resto, not much space inside, no dine in, just take out, only cash! Came around 11:30pm, guy taking order with hat in the counter is terrible at knowing who came first. I entered first and this uncivilized guy behind me decided to go way In front of me, so the staff asked his order first before me and that guy started saying what he wanted! I immediately interrupted and said « I came first! ». Then the staff reacted in a way to humiliate me as if I was creating a scandal!! Are you kidding me??? I was waiting outside for several minutes because there was no space inside full of people and this guy who just came behind me will be served first??? I should just accept that? I replied I wanted the order on the picture with the hot dog, poutine and drink.
I only came here with the intent to support the small restaurant over big ones! But this service is terrible at first experience and i left with a terrible memory! The restaurant is little dirty, small, no dine in and even 5 customers won’t fit inside. Although the staff became okay at the end, it will never make up for the humiliation he purposely created on me in front of everyone. What a way to treat a customer. The food is nothing special. This review reflects my experience and what I saw tonight. The one star will be for the food. NEVER COMING BACK AGAIN! Total regret coming here. Will...
Read moreLike other decades old community/city/local establishments, Decarie Hot dog has been serving audiences of every background possible from age to ethnicity to wealth to education. - almost everyone has heard of this place or eaten there as an institution bar none. The old Montreal pool room is a competitor but geographically they are so far apart they don’t really compete, however I believe that the atmosphere and food quality is far superior. This had been a family owned and run business that feels like a family environment from day one. Its owners Nick and his son (Kawasaki) Tommy have delighted its patrons in a warm, friendly and inviting manner with humour and great conversation - it’s like the bar Cheers on TV equivalent. Must eats, of course, the Montreal steamed hot dog and the Montreal classic way is mustard and coleslaw. Fries are fantastic and fresh cut and twice fried and of course poutine is amazing as it’s the burger and other items including breakfasts. So go and have an affordable but and get to know the staff as they are excellent...
Read moreEven though I quite enjoyed the flavours of the fries, I feel like it was lacking a bit of crunch to them. The hot dog was a bit disappointing in size for around 2.50$ but it ended up being pretty good. I had it all dressed and I really enjoyed the overall flavour profile of it. The poutine was also quite interesting in flavours, it varied from the usual plain brown sauce which was enjoyable. The portion was pretty hefty for around 10$ they charge for it. The service was pretty unenthusiastic. Everyone seemed to be a bit grumpy and unhappy when I walked into the restaurant. The counter waitress even gave out a sigh before serving me. However, they were working quite efficiently. By the time I had paid for the food, the order was already almost completed. The last thing that bothered me during my visit was that their card machine was down. There were so many more items I wanted to try out but I couldn't because I only had a limited amount...
