I don’t post reviews often, but when I do it’s only because I feel very strongly about something, and I feel the establishment deserves it.
This morning I decided to walk over to Dizz’s Bagel and Deli to grab some bagels and pastries for breakfast. I was under the impression that they were open 24 hours but when I arrived at 5:50 a.m. they were closed with a sign saying they would be temporarily closed between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a..m. This was no big deal at all and I was happy to wait but a gentlemen was on his way out the door. I asked him if they were open and his reply was “We’re open just for you.” Working in service myself, this is exactly the way I encourage my staff to accommodate customers. Off to a great start at Dizz’s.
I had a very nice chat with the gentleman that let me in about some common interests and the state of the service industry. It seems like he loves a chat but if not, sorry, I even find myself exhausting at 6:00a.m. sometimes.
Once inside I was met with the unmistakeable scent of delicious bagels and pastries.
As they were finishing setup I was offered a delicious coffee while waiting as I started to target the goodies that I’d be picking up.
I picked up 6 white seed bagels, homemade cream cheese, smoked salmon, apple turnovers, cheese bagels and a pack of chocolate puffs.
I can’t even begin to describe the look on my family’s faces when they walked into the kitchen and saw this spread waiting for them. In a word, it was elation. I held out as long as I could before popping a chocolate puff into my mouth but alas, I had two before anyone else knew they were in the house.
I was floored by the quality and freshness of everything I picked up. The items that were made at Dizz’s were all still warm! (Chocolate Puffs were super fresh but brought in from my fave Falafel spot, Falafal St. Jacques). Great decision to use then as a supplier. These were the best bagels, cheese bagels and turnovers that I’ve had since I was a child. Breakfast was a success and everyone started their day off in a fantastic mood and a full belly.
The gentlemen who put my order together (Jeff) was so friendly and accommodating. Customer service at its finest.
When my transaction was wrapping up, the gentlemen that originally welcomed me with an open door, asked my name. We exchanged names and as it turns out, he was the man himself! Dizz!
It’s very easy to see why Dizz’s is successful. In the service industry, a great establishment begins at the top, and Dizz has the experience, know-how and charisma that seems to carry on to his staff. In short. He cares about his customers and it shows.
If I could rate 10 stars, I would easily do so.
I cannot recommend Dizz’s Bagel and Deli enough. Trust me, go there. And go often. You’re not going to find this quality of food and welcoming service in very many establishments in the city.
I will be back often. Maybe too often for my waistline but it’s worth it.
Dizz’s Bagel and Deli can be found on UberEats, DoorDash and SkipTheDishes but I recommend a visit. I appreciate a good chat and warm, welcoming service and this is where to get it.
They offer catering services and a wide variety of breads, salads, and all types of prepared foods can be found at Dizz’s but I almost started crying tears of joy when Dizz told me they recently started bringing in hot Smoked Meat from Lester’s!!!! If you can’t make it to Bernard street and have a craving, run on over to Cote-Saint-Luc and Grand and get yourself a mouthwatering sandwich. I would have ordered one if I didn’t think I would get weird looks from the family at 6:30 in the morning.
10/10 This is my new go-to spot. Make it yours.
Thanks Dizz and Jeff for restoring my faith in warmth and welcoming experiences.
Shout out to your baker, I didn’t catch his name but he pumps out great bagels.
Much success and health,...
Read moreI am sharing this experience to alert others. My mother-in-law bit into a sandwich from this bagel shop in Côte St-Luc and unfortunately found what appeared to be a tooth inside (see attached photos). She became very ill and started vomiting. The bagel itself was stale, and even the broccoli seemed to contain something unusual.
I contacted the owner, Steve, to ask him to come see the evidence at the hospital where I spend most of my time caring for my sick husband. I even offered to meet him downstairs. Unfortunately, he refused to come and insisted that I should bring the food back to him instead. I became frustrated and told him, then come pick up your crab food. Looking back, I regret saying it that way, but I was upset in the moment because he was not willing to accommodate at all.
This was a very upsetting experience, and I believe food safety should be taken seriously. I hope management reflects on this situation so other customers do not go through something similar. Here...
Read moreI was there on a fairly busy Mother's Day Sunday, but they had a minute or so between each client paid at the cash.
I have to say the service was very below any reasonable standard. The two clients ahead of me were buying large orders, and neither were offered a bag. Both clients had to ask for a bag for their large orders, and both were told they would need to pay for the bag. Maybe if they had offered the bag before the orders were put into the cash? When it was my turn, I asked for a bag before I paid. Cashier forgot to charge me for a bag, and argued that I need to lay for the bag - after I paid for my order with a credit card. She acted annoyed that I had asked for a bag.
The bagels were decent according to all those that are them. Similar in texture but less tasty than St Visiteur according to my bagel eating family.
Smiles and a listening ear would go a long way to improve...
