This restaurant offers Buy One, Get One promotions on Uber Eats delivery orders.
Buy One, Get One ("BOGO") promotions allow you to receive two of the same item for the price of one. Among these offers from Double Pizza, the cheapest is for two small cheese pizzas ("Pizza Fromage", tomato sauce + cheese), priced at $21.98 before tax. However, if you order takeout on their site for this location (Queen Mary), one small cheese pizza costs $10.49.
Sometimes, restaurants will double the price of a singular item in a BOGO offer, but take some value off to make it sound less outrageous. The economy is hard on everyone, but a small cheese pizza does not cost 22 dollars. In this case, Double Pizza simply sells you two small cheese pizzas for $10.49 each AND adds a dollar ($10.49 times 2 is $20.98, a dollar less than $21.98), while advertising that you have gotten two at a valuation of $21.98.
In purely legal terms, this is fraud. But it's because the economy is so hard for everyone that BOGO offers are a benefit to both the restaurant and the consumer. The consumer saves money in indulging in a luxury, and the restaurant can sell food that would have otherwise gone bad, wasting everyone's time and money. Double Pizza is taking advantage of this mutually beneficial offer to sell more while lying to consumers. It is not enough for this location to double the prices of items- they must also charge a $1 premium for the promotional offer.
To the owners of this restaurant, what you are doing is deeply disappointing, and possibly illegal. Misleading consumers who are supporting your business in this difficult economic context is at best harmful negligence, and at worst, predatory. Timestamped photo and video evidence have been taken.
To those reading this review, this is sadly not a rare practice. I've reviewed several restaurants who have shown this unethical behavior, and every time, I ask myself this: if this restaurant is willing to lie to you about the prices of their items and to take advantage to you, what else are they doing with your food?
(Worthy of note is that this is a standard practice with Double Pizza locations- a review I left for their Pie-IX location was, of course,...
Read moreDouble Pizza’s Uber Eats BOGO promotion deceptively prices two small all dress pizzas at price if one (“Buy One, Get One”), The promotion inflates the “original” price to falsely imply savings, charging $1 extra while framing it as a discount. This manipulative practice exploits budget-conscious customers, violates FTC guidelines against false reference pricing, and reflects a pattern across locations (ignored prior complaints). Avoid this chain—businesses willing to lie about prices likely cut...
