Some of the best Indian food in Montreal--and I've tried lots of places. Unfortunately the owner is not remotely generous towards or appreciative of loyal or regular customers -- we've been regular customers for years, and we often order $100+ worth of Indian food for big family feasts and the owner consistently refuses to throw in even 1 free naan bread for us. The naan comes free with any meat dish, but if you order a paneer dish (e.g. butter paneer instead of butter chicken) which costs almost the same, the naan isn't included, at 2.45 a piece. To give a concrete example: At $14, butter chicken comes with 1 naan or rice. included At $13, the butter paneer does NOT come with naan or rice. So if you want the naan or rice for $2.45 you end up paying more than you would for butter chicken!! Another example of their stinginess: most restaurants that offer combos will let you swap out one item for another from the menu, and if the price of the items you're swapping is the same, they'll either do the swap for free or a small charge. I once asked to swap an item listed at $14 on the menu for another item listed at $14, and they insisted on charging a $4 fee. Other Indian restaurants in NDG are much more flexible and especially towards regular customers. This practice of nickle and diming loyal customers is why we rarely order from them anymore. Sadly...
Read moreHow this place got over 4 star rating is beyond me. I decided to try it since my go-to Indian restaurant (Bombay Mahal) was closed on Mondays. Lesson learned, I should not try new places, stick to what you know.
I should have read the negative reviews first as a lot of them mentioned delays, and late delivery - very accurate! My order was delayed 1 hour 50 minutes for delivery (almost 2 hours), really long, bad wait time.
When the food arrived it was packaged poorly, the containers were in the paper bag sideways so all the sauce fell out and wet the bag, when I took out the bag it ripped and all the containers fell face down on the floor and splattered. Lucky the covers were still on, so I was able to salvage it with out having too much of it contaminated.
When I tasted it, it was really bad taste, not awful, but bland and tasteless (biriyani), nothing like regular Indian food. The naan was soggy, stiff and tasteless. The chicken tikka masala was not flavorful, just salt, and the chicken bits seemed like fake processed chicken and sauce. They didn't even include yogurt on the side for the biriyani like most places. Also way too expensive for what it is. Much more expensive than other places. I'm sorry, but this place...
Read moreMy husband placed an order at 6:45 for pickup. Told it would be ready in 30 minutes. When I arrived at 7:15 I was told food not ready, would be another 10 minutes. Food was not ready until 7:45. To top it off, neither one of their two Interac machines were working. The only working one was out with their delivery person. Told I could pay cash (really? It's 2025! Who carries large amounts of cash these days?), e-transfer which I do not do by choice, or wait for the delivery person to come back with the working machine in "10 minutes". Note that from experience, I now knew that when she says 10 minutes, she means at least 30 minutes! The butter chicken was already cold and I was exhausted from a long day, but was prepared to wait.
THEN, the older lady (owner?) had the unmitigated gall to very loudly say that the problem was that I "can't pay" (other customers actually turned to look at me!) even though the reason I was unable to pay was because of their faulty equipment!
Done! I just left the food there and walked out. This used to be our regular Indian food place. No more. I hear there are lots of excellent Indian restaurants in NDG. When it comes to client service, this is not...
