After reading all the glowing reviews, for sure; this is going to one of my highlights in visiting montreal.

Well, I had the worse experience at lunch, I am sure maybe I am the exception or this restaurant is living off it’s glorious past reputation!

Was greeted by an extremely hostile waiter, should had gotten the clue and left: nope, he give me a bar stool, although the restaurant at that moment was 75% empty. I watched, as time passed, it stand 50% empty. His petty power was palpable! With a face as if someone has beaten him up the night before: all bruised and swallowed.

I couldn’t understand the menu at all, although it had english in it. Didn’t get any help from the waitress, she couldn’t explained the menu to me. Another clue to leave. But I was stubborn and believed in the glowing reviews!

I blindly ordered 2 dishes, when it come, ouch! The fishes had been long dead, just needed to buried it or give it to the cats.

I was so astonishingly shocked. Thinking, oh! It’s got to me? Who is the problem? how can this be? The wasabi was but a drop. Should have taken photos of it. Or videos!

Of course, I ate it, it was disgusting, fearing for food poison. Unbelievably, it’s timing and luck, which I seem to be at the wrong place, wrong time, unfortunately for me.

Now, I paid my bill, without any tips as a protesting to the whole experience. Miuntes later, the same ugly waiter come face me! Demanded to know? What country did I come from? Really? When I said toronto, he realized I speak english.

Than he processed to tell me, you know, here, we waiters only live off tips, we don’t make money here. Oh? Really? I said, I know, and I am not giving any tips, because I had such a bad experiences here. And I will relate my experiences in your reviews.

A few Miuntes later; he come back and demanded to know? What was my complaints, he wanted to know because if it’s going to be in the reviews?

Well, whoever is reading this, beware of reviews, it’s about timing and luck. Most people Had good experiences in the past under different chef, food quality, reception and services. Today, I was unlucky and it was the worse Japanese food ever served to me. I travel all over the world, this restaurant, at least today is not what the reviews said. This is one of the few review I ever written about any restaurant.

This waiter, he was a racist and a petty human, who puts him in the reception? Hopefully I am not the only casualty today....

My experience with jun i has been quite disappointing from the start. reservations are hard to modify, 2 times out of 3 when you call you get no answers and you get directed to the website to make a reservation. I had a reservation for 4 at 8pm that i wanted to switch for 6 people, and it was impossible even if i gave him all the options to squeeze us. the receptionist ended up giving us a reservation for 9:30, but forced us into taking the 95$/pers tasting menu. his reasons was; its too hard for the cook to get your orders if your 6 (whats so hard about that? imagine going to a steakhouse and the waiter asks that everybody chooses the same cooking temperature cuz its too hard for the chef). il let it slide and I even proposed to give my order in advance by and that i would give him the full order by phone. his answer was: the rules a strict, its this or nothing. found it very rude behavior but i decided to go since we’ve been waiting for this reservation for weeks.

The service was good, waiter was nice. But the food… is disappointing. With the way the receptionist behaved concerning the chef needing to know 4h in advance what we would have, and the price point… (95$ for 2 entree, 15 sushis and a dessert)… I had high expectation. turns out the food doesn’t stand out at all of any regular sushi place.

The dishes were fine.. but clearly not enough food to feed a kid. Your taking 95$ for Gods sake, give me some food.

Also, for what is considered an upscale sushi restaurant, the sushi rice was cold and lacked flavour, The nigiri had so much wasabi between the rice and the fish, it was intolerable , we had to wipe it off before taking a bite. the fish was cut too thick for the nigiris… The rice krispy in the makis was also not great.

In conclusion, ive been to many amazing sushi places with theses price points; Nuji sushi, Hidden fish, miku sushi. this...

Our first time experience here for our anniversary was marred by several service issues. Despite having a reservation, we had to wait 10 minutes for our table. Once seated, there was no menu on the table and we had to wait some time for the waiter to bring one after pointing that out. We repeatedly had to ask for water, which was forgotten. To worsen matters, my girlfriend ordered a soup as appetizer that tasted overwhelmingly just water and oil, with only ONE shrimp in it and 2 tiny pieces of fish (for a cost of 17$).

When we addressed these concerns with the server, a man with a bald head and a small beard, he gave us attitude and complained about us consuming the protein instead of addressing the legitimate issues with the food quality. His response was both unprofessional and unsatisfactory. Not to mention that from the moment we sat down he was not welcoming, nor nice to us! He looked bothered, and Annoyed to serve our table. We paid for our diner, and he did not even give us the receipt, leaving us without saying “goodnight”.

Our overall experience was disappointing, considering it was meant to be a celebration for our anniversary. Spending over $150 and receiving subpar service only heightened our frustration. We believe such situations should be handled with professionalism and a sincere apology, rather than engaging in arguments with customers.

We will definitely not go back to this place, it was a waste of money and ended up to be an...

Although a bit expensive, the portions and the quality of the food makes up for the price. Their omakase comes with 3 appetisers, 15 pieces of sushi and a dessert for around 120$. The pieces of sushi were quite big and the cut of fishes were quite generous. I especially liked their Funny Maki because there was a great contrast in the temperature which made it so unique and delicious. I was surprised because I usually don't like fried sushi that much. As for the appetisers, I feel like the first two dishes were a bit too sour which overwhelmed the flavours of the ingredients but their octopus appetiser had a great balance of sweetness and saltiness which made it so wonderful. The quality of the ingredients is amazing, each slice was really fresh and I especially enjoyed the fresh scallop sushi which had a great seafood sweetness to it. The service was superb. The waiters and waitresses were all extremely patient and professional, taking the time to explain each dish while they were serving it to the table. Even though the place was quite fancy with the minimalistic interior decors, I feel like the semi casual atmosphere fits the place extremely well and it was pretty easy to talk at our table until later at night when the restaurant was more crowded, I felt like we had to shout a bit to be heard.

May 2022 update Recently went for dinner at Juni and unfortunately my experience was not optimal. I have noticed a few changes from my prior visits: - You now need a credit card to book that charges you 25pp to book a table - Only 2 services appear available 6pm and 8pm - We booked the 6pm service and our bill promptly appeared at 7:50 and at 7:57 we were asked to vacate the table as next guests had already arrived. Unfortunately the staff had not even brought back change yet for a guest that had paid in cash. The whole dinner experience felt rushed, stressful and unpleasant from the dinner standpoint. The staff seemed stressed and frankly not as pleasant in my many past experiences. It would be good to leave 15 min between bookings to give staff the time to process departures and arrivals appropriately. The food was as good and fresh as usual but the whole point of leaving my house to eat it and Juni is to have a pleasant experience and this was not the case unfortunately 😕. Prior experience: Great restaurant with a good service and fresh sushi. Very tasty and fresh crab creations. They also always try to procure the freshest sea urchin! At my last visit, the had the tastiest from Quebec.

This might be the best sushi spot in Montreal, we were a party of 4 and went with high expectations, the dinner service was chosen and catered by our waiter, we had about 15 pieces each and a mix of sashimi and maki, overall every piece we had was beefy good with quality ingredients. The sashimi was out of this world, specifically the salmon, Tuna and Mackerel. We also paired our supper with some martinis and of course some sake. Food wise everyone was satisfied. When it came to the overall service, they were very attentive and asked us a few times how everything was going, staff are very nice and knowledgeable. The atmosphere and vibe of the restaurant is nice as well, not a very big spot but you don’t feel cramped when eating. Would highly recommend checking out if you are a sushi fan and looking for a nice spot to eat, and catch up with friends. Will definitely be coming back. With all the food we ordered, it came to about 180 a person tax and tip included. For a similar portion and quality, elsewhere like park or Nobu, you’d be paying 2 to 3 times more.
