So I have been to multiple locations of this small chain of Greek style tavern restaurant and grill. All in all a good place to eat and wine and dine - depending on your budget.
Food is fresh and ingredients as well. Nothing appears to be pre-made and is therefore āa la minuteā, made fresh on the spot. So it could take a little time but thatās what appetizers are for right?
Service I friendly and accommodating and services know their products.
Atmosphere is perhaps the best part of the restaurant on the whole as it āalmostā makes you forget (firefly) that youāre out somewhere special and even perhaps a local taverna in Greece somewhere. Well done guys.
Now, to the review. Stand outs - the Greek yogurt with Greek honey, cinnamon and sour cherries. As simple as this was itās fantastic and I always want more of this.
The Greek salad was lovely as all ingredients were fresh and it was a reasonable portion as well.
Mediterranean Sea bass. Cooked properly and seasoned nicely the fish did not let down, though it was a smallish portion.
Greek style pork chop. Though the chop was cooked properly and had some nice charing and crisp outside and moist inside, almost half the chop was fat and bone. The chop size is small to begin with and at $32 Iām sorry, but as much I enjoyed what little there was to eat, I canāt say this was enjoyable as almost half my chop was unable to be eaten. Thankfully there were two spreads and lots of crisp bread as well as the potatoes and veg to fill me up.
The salmon was nothing to write home about. It was a safe dish with simple ingredients and cooked properly. Does not stand out nor excite but was satisfying.
All dishes came with Yayas roasted Greek style potatoes which are super soft and moist with olive oil and lemon and Greek oregano. Very tasty to say the less as well as a miniature portion of corn on the cob which was surprisingly tasty and three to four thinly slices of carrot. This is especially where the value here is compromised. The prices being charged here are nothing to sneeze at, however for the price one should expect high quality food, cooked properly and to oneās liking, as well as a decent portion and a good amount of sides. Given how cheap potatoes and basic veg is, I find this to be poorly thought out. There are plenty of very good Greek restaurants that are not shy to provide delicious and filling potatoes and veg on the side and plenty of it. I can list numerous but feel it would not benefit.
The sides - The Taramosalata was a little fishy and somewhat sour. Maybe it was an off day? As a fan of this appetizer it was a bit of a let down but not a deterrent for me to not eat some anyway - as we patiently waited for the meal to arrive. The kopanisti was on par with your standard appetizer and was a fair portion as was the Taramasalata.
The baklava is apparently home made in house and it tasted and appeared home made. The flavouring was a little too subtle for all of us but it was fresh and lots of sweet sauce.
The Greek mini donuts had a nice crisp exterior and moist interior and the honey with cinnamon complimented it sufficiently but here too I believe the flavouring was too subtle.
Overall this is typically a good restaurant to eat at and normally the food is consistently good. The menu is not too big and could benefit from having a souvlaki option but I suspect the image of this restaurant is intended to be more upscale and perhaps having souvlaki on the menu...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSecond time we've been there and we're disappointed. 1st time was excellent. The decor is lovely as always. Things started badly as soon as we walked in. We brought in a bottle of red wine but were told this Petro's is not a BYOB no longer. OK, my fault for not checking. As we check the wine list the waiter suggested a red MRS 20 from Greece which was not on the wine list. We took the waiters suggestion and were disappointed. Not very good wine. We didn't say anything to be polite. This wine was $46 where other wines that were on the wine list were around $36. I didnt ask for price not wanting to look cheap. Oldest trick there is. I latter checked on line and this wine retails between $8 and $12. We started off with a taramasalata which was good. However the bread was not fresh. Seemed it was a few days old. Why would a pricey restaurant serve up stale bread. How much extra could it cost you. I had the lamb chops which were OK but nothing special. However the potatoes were cold. You would expect something better for $46. We ordered coffee with cheese baklava afterwards. It was really just a regular cheese cake. It was OK but coffee was filled 2/3 of the cup. Why...... On top of that my coffee cup had lipstick on the rim. I pointed that out to the waiter and he jokingly said "not your color" with no apology. What a difference from the last time we went which was before the pandemic. Needless to say we will not be back and will not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent for a work dinner and everything was very good maybe just a tad slow to come out but considering we were a table of 20ish on a saturday evening it can be forgiven!!
Entrees were great with a lot of options to pick from! Loved the fried zucchini and spicy feta dip. The chicken was just juicy enough for breast with a nice smoky taste, sausage was good too but the pork was lacking in taste (was dry with a yet watery taste). Salmon was a bit too dry to my liking but the fried fish (assuming its cod) was very fresh and not too greasy. Veggies could've been a bit more cooked as the brussel sprouts were still quite hard.
Dessert I'll say was a bit underwhelming, little dough balls similar to what we know as 'mr puffs' but not much flavor going on served with fresh fruits.
Overall really like my meal and evening there and would recommend to others as well š all thanks to our...
