To be honest, I never went to that place in person. But I ordered on many occasions. And you know what? You can order 1lbs of smoked meat!!
After ordering that (it was my first time ordering there), I understood why that place is an institution.
Their smoked meat is just out of this world!
After ordering that on a couple of occasions, I started to try other stuff. I tried the smoked meat submarine, the smoked meat pizza, the corner sandwich (do yourself a favor and try that!), well, everything with smoked meat in it.
I never ordered something that does not contain smoked meat (the exception being their excellent chocolate cheese cake) so, I can't speak for those products but for everything with smoked meat, this is the place!
And, about that 1lbs of smoked meat, just imagine what you could do with it!
smoked meat pasta sauce Reuben sandwich (even better if you have a culinary torch to melt the cheese) smoked meat bites for a pot luck (trust me. Everybody will prefer the people who brings the smoked meat bites and the little sausages warped in bacon. Don't be the one who brings a salad. I learned that the hard way) just plain smoked meat because it's that delicious
Anyways, what I'm trying to say is that if you buy that 1lbs of smoked meat, you'll fall in love...
Read moreLe Roi du Smoked Meat on a friend’s recommendation, and overall, it was a mixed experience. The location is great — right on a busy corner and close to the metro, making it super convenient to get to. The diner-style interior is clean, well-lit, and welcoming, with friendly and attentive staff who made us feel comfortable right away.
I ordered the smoked meat platter, and the meat itself was excellent. The texture was spot on, the seasoning was well-balanced, and the flavor was exactly what you’d hope for in a Montreal smoked meat experience. However, the portion and pricing left a lot to be desired.
The platter included about the same amount of meat as a large sandwich, a modest serving of fries (maybe one potato’s worth), a small portion of shredded green cabbage as coleslaw, a single slice of pickle (not a whole one), and a few slices of bread. While everything tasted great, it didn’t feel like a $30 meal after tax and tip.
Unfortunately, this seems to be a common issue with smoked meat spots in Montreal — delicious food but pricing that feels out of sync with what you actually get. If you’re craving top-quality smoked meat and don’t mind the splurge, this place delivers on flavor. But if value for money is a priority, you might walk away feeling a bit...
Read moreOutdated food and decor. Staff was pleasant though.
We were 4, we all had different dishes. I tried everyone's food, none of them tasted anywhere close to the price paid. For a place to claim to be the king of smoke meat, it was below par, Infact the smoke meat sandwich was nasty. The pizza tasted nasty too. Fish and chips was oily on the outside, soggy and dry inside. We all took milkshake aswell, the strawberry one has nesquick syrup taste all over and the vanilla one was bitter and disgusting. When we asked why does it taste like that, their answer was its made with real vanilla. I mean great but why in the world did it taste bitter? Who drinks a milkshake that's bitter? Also, why would I want to pay 4.5$ for milk + nesquick syrup which I can make at home for much cheaper and better?
I genuinely don't know what smoke meat others are eating to rate this 5/5. This is disgusting and tastes like the cold cut ham you can buy at Walmart. Shawrtz is 10x better. Heck, even Dunn's smoked meat tastes better than this sorry of a smoked meat. I do not recommend this place. You will have a better dinner at McDonald's and pay less.
0/5 for the food experience. Staff was cool so 5/5...
