I am hoping to give a constructive feed back that would help both the business owner and the future customers to benefit from this. Here is my overall experience:
Atmosphere & Decor : 5/5 Pick Thai is definitely a very cozy place that separates the visitor from the outside world. Its well put together decor adds up to the experience and makes the place feel authentic.
Food : 4/5 To be fair I visited the place on a very busy night. The presentation and the menu is great. What I found less impressive was the chicken that was slightly dry. However that would not stop me from recommending this place since it might be just the busy night and maybe on a different day it would not have been the case.
Service: 1/5 This is what Pick Thai should very carefully revise because this is what I found very disappointing. I find it very unfortunate how a bad service of one employee can overshadow all the effort that goes into running this business. I called to reserve for my girlfriend's birthday. I wanted it to be specifial for her and asked if they could offer a birthday cake with candles. The gentleman on the phone had a very dry manner of speaking, saying that this was not an option as the only desert is the fried ice cream. I asked again if there was no option for a birthday cake and it was a clear no. I got to the restaurant a little earlier and spoke to the gentleman who sounded like the one on the phone. I had a question about the table arrangements and got a very dry response. I understand that a business can be busy, yet no need to be so dry. What got me really upset is that as my girlfriend and I were done eating there was a table next to us that got had a birthday cake served... My question is why on Earth did the gentleman I spoke to on the phone didn't suggest that either I can bring my own cake or explore any other options to make this happen for my visit!? This is no fast food restaurant, and what you charge for is exceptional service which I did not see at all. To be fair we were served by another person who was a wonderful lady and I don't mean to blame the entire team. At the end of the day next celebration I will book at a place where a business understands what a good customer service is and knows the importance of a long term relationship and...
Read moreImpeccable place. I am one of those guys, who looks for bad things to grumble about, but in this place I got desperate - it was near perfect. Let's start from outside - there is parking. Something I wasn't sure of, when I first discovered this place googling for "Thai food". So we even left our car a couple blocks away and walked. Once inside, I started looking for problems in ambiance - to no avail. Everything was just fine. Neat, well designed interior ensemble with comfortable seats, some of those are sofas with pillows - we sat on one, waiting for our table to be set. The place looks new. You don't see scratches on the walls, torn off carpets, corners, that are in need of vacuum cleaner. The feeling I had, was like one, when you come to somebody's well kept private place. Sufficient lighting - spotlights, lit wall panels - very nice ones too. Music doesn't interfere with talking. Service - a couple of guys, moving fast, nice, efficient. Food - if I had to use just one word, it would be "freshness". We tried their appetizers - all were very good to excellent on our scale, soup - above criticism, salad - never thought green mango can taste this good, tiger shrimp with veggies and rice, and chicken with the same sides. Now me and my wife are both good cooks, so when we try chicken somewhere, we normally end up discovering that we can do it better. Not in this case. Same with veggies and shrimp. The damage was close to 100 bucks for two of us - inside of which is a $7 glass of Sapporo - highway robbery if you ask me, but then - it's a restaurant. I don't regret a single cent out of that $100. And by the end of the night I finally had my satisfaction - found a fault in the whole setup - it was the view. We were seated by the window, and knowing the district, you can imagine what we saw out of that window. And like another reviewer said already - can't...
Read morePick Thai is located in a somewhat obscur office condo building on de Maisonneuve adjacent to the Vendome metro station and across the street from the MUHC hospital...but don't let these digs fool you. Pick Thai has an excellent offering of Thai food that should get more attention than it does. Once you enter the restaurant, it likes a time warp to a completely different locale compared to the outside. Beautiful dark wood accents the entire place complimented by wonderful golden decorations and even some offerings to the buddha. The ambiance completely sets the tone for the meal.
The menu is extensive (see all the photos) offering all those classic Thai dishes you know and love. For our dinner I selected the Table 'D'hote offering which is of exceptionally value. The meal starts with a Tom Yam soup along with a selection of their most popular appetizers (mango salad, golden pouch, golden triangle and Niem Thod), then a choice of your main [I chose the Oak Kai Yang grilled chicken (which was excellent)] and ending with a coffee or tea. In addition, we had the Shrimp Pad Thai noodle dish (also excellent) and ended with a Banana Fritter dessert (that dish can never fail).
Overall service was very good with friendly and helpful staff. In the mood for Thai, then you can't go wrong if you pick Pick...
