MeiWei Dumpling(Sherbrooke) — Restaurant in Montreal

So the reason why I gave this place 5 stars for atmosphere is because it matches its value product offering - Meaning, they pricing is extremely fair and their quality, freshness, and portions as well as taste exceed their pricing.

We had number 8 shrimp wonton soup for two with bok choy and noodles, with a sesame finish that was so excellent you don’t even need to add soy or anything as the broth is beyond delicious. I could have a bowl of broth alone and be happy. The soup came with 8 sizeable wontons that were fantastic and juicy and filled with shrimp. 🍤

We then had number 35 dumpling filled with shrimp 🍤 , porc 🐖 and chives and it was cooked fried as you can tell. It needed no additional seasoning or sauce once again - a testament to their ability to create deep balanced umami flavours perfectly on its own without needing extras. The soup was $9.99 and the dumplings (15 of them) was $23.99 - well worth it. And we got two wonton cookies with the usual message inside and they were a great end to the meal. Next time we plan to try the chicken and mushroom dumplings and hope to have enough room to try the fried sesame balls with red bean paste inside. Yummy right! Very important to know, the owner is so genuine and sweet. She is so appreciative of her customers and runs around the restaurant keeping customers happy while making sure the cash and take out are also...

Good food, less than optimal experience come time to pay the bill.

Service understably not their brightest spot given lack of staff, with seemingly the owner left to take orders in person, answer phone calls for orders, deal with delivery apps (Doordash, Uber Eats, etc.) as well as waiting tables. The waiting of tables took the fall here as there was another diner who had to bring their own plates in, and for my table, had to wait 5 minutes before getting utensils, water, cups, etc. We had wanted to get a takeout container for the remainder of our food, but again given that they lacked staff, we were largely ignored. The only reason why it's not lower is because of the food itself. The negative aspect is when it came time to pay, my father corrected the lady running the one-man show for the amount he gave her, for her to then get upset because we didn't tip right then and there. Gratuities ARE NOT MANDATORY! It's something the diner offers to give in addition depending on the service received; the audacity of owners these days thinking they're entitled to it is ludicrous. Hopefully they lose that entitlement, otherwise food-wise it...

What an absolute find. This is a place that prides itself on its homemade, fresh, tasty dumplings.

We ordered the #35, shrimp pork and chive dumplings. Immediately, you can tell the dumplings are hand made, fried or steamed to order. They're not even soup dumplings, but they are still juicy and full of flavor. They were served piping hot and we had all the right table ingredients to make dumpling sauce (soy sauce, vinegar, chili oil). When you open the dumplings, you can see pieces of whole shrimp, pork and chives, so you know it's real ingredients.

Alex was extremely kind, hardworking and passionate. He was very friendly, fast service and knows his dumplings! I would keep coming here again and again.

The inside of the restaurant is simple, very clean and feels very cozy.
