Not going to lie, I was very disappointed in the individual that was our waitress. We went, my dad and I, and no one was in the restaurant. Perhaps the owner or perhaps just a manager came to greet us and asked if she could sit us near the window. My father has difficult mobility , so he pointed to a three top circular table. She said no, that its for three people and that this place fills up fast. (it was empty, a Wednesday 11:30am)
When we sat down, she was extremely rude. Again, no one was in the restaurant. My dad and I start chatting and immediately she cuts my father off: here are the specials. Not even a excuse me (AGAIN NO ONE ELSE THERE. I would understand if it was crowded!) She asks what we want to drink, my dad says tap beer. « We don’t have on tap beers. Only bottled or can. » My dad: Do you have stella? Waitress: No we have moretti. We are both like okay… I asked for wine and the bottle came and there was this funny looking porcupine. I tell my dad: « did you see the labels, it’s funny. » My dad says oh I don’t know it’s cute (since I don’t know, it’s just a porcupine??) The waitress: why do you say that? (Awkward pause) I find it endearing. My dad laughs it off. He said I don’t know because it’s an outdoor … She pushes: why? I find he’s cute and I wouldnt say that. I would drink it. Once again, no clue as to why she’s being so intense and again: it’s a porcupine. Relax. Not fun banter at all.
The meal is served, she just looks annoyed and her green sweater is dirty. At the end, she asks if we want coffee. I say I’ll have a latte My dad: just black coffee for me. She said ok espresso? My dad: no just a regular coffee. Her: We don’t have coffee. Okay lady. We get it, at this point just tell us what you have.
Her tone was rude and disrespectful. My father pays and she’s look directly over his shoulder, looking at him tipping. Once we leave, the restaurant is still EMPTY except for 2 groups at small tables. No 3tops and no one near the table we wanted. It was just so awkward and unpleasant. Worst service i’ve ever had at...
Read moreIt was sooooo salty! I would have said 3.5 stars but there's no half points so I rounded up because Pizza 900 is often consistent and this location is new, so maybe it's not quite there yet. I ordered a Margherita pizza and while everything was on point, the dough was light, chewy, cooked well, the toppings were rustic and not lacking, it was ready quick and delivered promptly but -OH MY GOD, it was crazy salty! It was as if someone dropped a salt shaker with corse sea salt on my pizza! I could see the flakes of salt scattered across the pizza like large beads of sand (this can be seen even in my photos below)! Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate when dishes are meant to be savoury but when it's to the point that the salt burns my lips and I can't taste the rest of the ingredients, it's not helping the dish, it's ruining it. I really hope this was the fault of an inexperienced employee or a one-off incident because while I know restaurant food can often be over salted because we've been trained to like salt, I also believe saltiness is subjective (like pepper!) and anything beyond a light dusting meant to ameliorate the flavours should be left to the discretion of the consumer and not forced upon you. I might be a part of the minority who would say this but really hope that in the future restaurants start to treat (heavy) salt use (at the level my pizza was last week) like any other spice and if a dish is going to be heavily salted like this, to label it as such ie. margherita pizza: fresh basil, fresh mozzarella, graciously salted, etc... I know I complain but, truth is I'll give this location another shot in the future because as far as pizza chains go, 900 is definitely one of the best, if not, the best (chain) and I welcome it to the neighbourhood but this location needs to work on it's finesse because there's some serious local non-chain-competition at the east end of Wellington that also makes a killer pizza at...
Read moreThe food was well priced and impressive introducing me to new flavors in an exciting way. I enjoyed the mozzarella di bufala which was presented in a yellow tomato sauce that I have never tasted before. The sauce hit with a tang that was so unique it deserves a new taste word, it was tangy but in a way, I can't explain. The mozzarella was on a delicious tomato and it was slightly crisped. The tomato sat in the delicious and unique yellow tomato sauce. Something I have never tried before. The fresh bread was warm, well-spiced, and ready to be used as the perfect addition to the dish. The experience was really enjoyable and fresh but appropriately filling. I had a nice glass of wine followed by a delicious cocktail based on gin, basil, and egg white. Again, something unique I have never had before.
Service was impeccable. On time, delivered with a smile. The wine came as professional as it gets. My questions were provided with the care I wouldn't even expect in a fine dining establishment, so a special thanks to the single person managing the floor while I was there (it wasn't busy, just past noon on a Tuesday, Jan 17th).
This is an Italian restaurant I am very happy to see in Montreal, where Italian culture thrives beautifully. The atmosphere is modern, yet keeps the traditional feel alive and well. Situated perfectly for lunch with the sun beaming through the many windows. I can't wait to try it out during an evening when I am certain it will feel warm and inviting, and full of happy patrons. This place is a beautiful gem and I'm looking forward to my...
