Indian restaurants in Montreal continue to disappoint us (especially when compared to Toronto) and Taj Mahal Inde just joined the list. We ordered through Uber Eats, their vegetarian meal for two. It basically had Pakoda, Samosa, Korma, Chana Masala, Dal, Naan and Gulab Jamun. However, we mentioned that we're vegans and hence dairy products like butter and ghee should be excluded. They accepted the order as mentioned. However, it just appeared that they seem to hate vegans - as they conveniently placed Chicken Korma in the delivery in spite of knowing that we have ordered a "vegetarian meal" and that too requested to be vegan, which they accepted. When I called them, the lady did not even have the basic courtesy to apologise for the mistake and just mentioned that it was something "extra" which we can discard. I'm not sure - if you really want to give something extra to the customer, give something consumable. It also raises questions on their kitchen hygiene, especially how separated is their animal and plant based food. About the food, almost everything lacked salt and let's just forget about the spices. Samosa crust was absolutely bland. The masala inside was fine. Naan was very sweet and the Chana Masala was okay. Rice was below par - had better separated and flavorful rice at other places. While my wife tried Gulab Jamun, she couldn't go beyond the first bite. Verdict - never ever ordering from Indian restaurants, at least in Montreal. Absolutely disappointing. We would rather drive...
Read moreGot dragged here for dinner and had read he reviews here and was not sure what to expect. BUT I was pleasantly surprised.
The service was good and attentive and the food was delicious. While the dinning room was mostly empty there was a continuous stream of take-out orders flying out of the door. They do a lot of take-out!!
While it was my first time there, I might have caught them on a good night where all was going well, but it's good to consider that some of the bad reviews may have just been there on an off night as well. My food was spot on and tasted fresh and delicious. The lady that served us had a good sense of humour too, so maybe some people didn't catch onto that. Can't please everyone...
Another gripe in reviews were the take out containers. The styrofoam 'lunch' containers are not ideal for saucy curries. That's for sure. But there are smaller plastic containers if you ask. That worked great on my 'extra' food which I unashamedly devoured for breakfast the next day (I couldn't wait for lunch!)
Would I come back? Yes. I would....

Overall it's clear that this restaurant serves high quality Indian cuisine with good ambiance and professional service. The only thing is that it seems like you might have an off night every now and then - but as long as you're prepared for that possibility then you should have no problem enjoying...
