I'm updating my original review after a very disappointing experience that has made me decide to take the $100+ I spend here every week to other shops on Wellington. I went in to buy Easter chocolate for my daughter and was treated as though the staff were doing me a favor by selling their products—rather than the other way around. The new blonde French guy (the one who's always in a rush and never responds when greeted) started scanning my items but quickly showed signs of irritation when the scanner had trouble reading the tags. I asked about the price of a chocolate rabbit, thinking I might buy more, but his tone made it clear that this wasn’t the moment for questions. At that point, I was shocked and just wanted to leave—but I still needed a bag. When I asked for one, he snapped, “I’m busy right now, can you wait!” By then, I was speechless. Not only was I being treated poorly, but I was also spending $40. He eventually called for help. A short French woman with glasses came over, placed a bag in front of me, and began packing the chocolates while saying, “You can help me if you want, eh!” This behavior is completely unacceptable. If you don’t want to lose customers, remind your new employees that this isn’t France—here, we treat people with respect, especially paying customers.

Great bakery to get coissant, chocaltine (pain au chocolate), pain a raison, and much much more. They have very interesting breakfast pastries and seasonal options like maple pastries. They also have pate and other savory items to create a wonderful picnic, don't forget their amazing baguette. The croissants are very good, crunchy on the outside and buttery inside. The chocaltine needed a little.ore chocolate but it was very good too. The staff at this location, they have two (the other is on Mt. Royal in the Plateau), is incredibly helpful and friendly let alone knowledgeable. Ask them any questions and they will steer you in the right direction. There is also a coffee bar in the bakery and a few tables/counter by the window.

Got the orange hot chocolate, brioche du carême, and gluten-free chocolate chip cookie. Hot chocolate: This was so good! The orange flavor came through, and the hot chocolate itself was thick with a strong semi-dark chocolate flavor. Brioche du carême: This was just average. Nothing really stood out about this. I could skip it. Cookie: This was yummy! It was crispy on the outside, but more bready than that of a normal cookie on the inside. Solid cookie overall, even though it's not your traditional cookie. There wasn't anything from here I'd really crave, but it hits the spot if you want quality bread or desserts. Would definitely grab one of their drinks if I pass by though.

I have been to the Verdun Store twice and once at the Mont Royal branch. Their bread is very good. They freeze well so I tend to buy extra to have on hand at home. I liked the whole wheat, Swedish with fruit and their multigrain. Their prices are reasonable too. However I find their pastries were either very good or not the best. I tried the following Pumpkin Spice Loaf (during autumn) and the Carrot Cake Loaf (this past week). They were both excellent. Moist, full of flavour and perfect crumb texture and balance of sweetness. The chocolate chip cookies I tried twice at two different times and locations. The texture and mouthfeel were were good. The size generous and price reasonable. The only thing I didn't like was that it was too sweet for my liking. If they added pecans or walnuts it may balance the cookie more and help cut down the sweetness altogether. The most disappointing was the blueberry maple chunk muffin. The blueberries were non existent (very few and very small). They were either dried or perhaps shrunken freezer burned looking that were supposed to be wild blueberries. I did not taste the maple at all and the texture was overly dense and heavy. Very greasy to the touch as if there was too much coconut oil. I barely ate a third of it and threw the rest out. Being vegan it is nice to find and I always appreciate any bakery that offers vegan options for pastries because many do not this nor do they have to. I want to give them my honest opinion on what I think of the vegan selection as I have had many non-vegan friends try it as I take extras home with me. They loved the loaves but found the cookies too sweet. As far as the service at both branches they have always been cordial, helpful, efficient and most of all professional. There was no cross conversations with other workers and they asked right away if I needed their assistance versus at some other places you are waiting for service (when they are not busy). I will definitely go back and get breads and whatever vegan loaf they have to offer and in season whenever I venture out in those areas. I would be willing to give the blueberry vegan muffin another try if I see there are more blueberries. Perhaps it was an off day. I am interested to try the other vegan muffin option but it...

I have been coming to this place in Verdun since it’s opened. Excellent food, phenomenal pastries, out of this world bread. I gave Toledo 5 stars except on service, I gave it 4, I could have given it a 3 or less. This would be the first time. When checking out I experienced my “Short Change” or as my friends calls it: Getting the typical “Bar” fast of hand. My order came to $26. and change, I gave the fellow at the cash $40. He give me change for $30. It was busy and he was talking it up to the other patrons. Hey mistakes happen, so I told him I gave him two twenties, he said sorry, still talking it up with other patrons, he gives me a $5 bill. See what happened? It was not a mistake, he was doing the waitress bar hustle. I never had an experience like this at this place, service was always top notch only superseded by the quality of the products. I’m kind of gun shy to go back, knowing it was NOT a mistake but a way to make , at first $10 then $5. Then to top it off, he packed my order in a bag, got my lady friend extra treats for work this week. It was a surprise for her, as we get home I gave her the little surprise, nothing big just a little recognition of all she does for me. And what do I find, I never told her, but was short on two different pastries. Once again it’s not the cost it’s the principle of it. Hard to take. Too bad such...
