OK so I predict this review getting a bit long. Before we begin the TL;DR is if you like pizza, even just a tiny bit, YOU MUST TRY THIS PLACE. If you LOVE pizza, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!? Now on to the reasons why:
In a recent Eater interview, where I initially learned about Segreta, they mention how "It's all about the crust" and they KILLED it witht he crust. I was lucky enough to try a slice of their Potato pizza straight from the oven. This is crucial that you taste at least a bite of your slice(s) before heading home. When this thing is fresh it's on a whole different level. Light and fluffy but with such an incredible crunch to it. It is SO good. The aromas, the flavours, the textures. Just kills it.
The rest of my order was vegan: a Rosso without parmasean-reggiano (Tomato sauce, garlic, oregano and olive oil) and a vegan spicy italian sausage ( Vegan cheese, Vegan spicy italian, Spicy olive oil). I was hesitant on the vegan cheese because I'm not generally a fan of that sort of thing, but they talked me into it over the phone and they weren't kidding. For clarification, I'm not vegan, but my GF is. While I didn't have this side by the side with the non-vegan version, if I didn't know it was vegan I don't think I would have been able to tell. When I walked in and looked at the pre-made ready to sell single slices, you can tell the quality of the ingredients just by sight. After tasting it, you know it's the real deal. I sitll have leftovers in my fridge and I'm already planning on going back this weekend to try some of the non vegan options.
The pizza obviously does lose some of it's amazingness if you don't eat it relatively quickly. They include re-heating instructions on the box itself and it works reasonably well, but you will never match the fresh out of the oven taste. Be warned if you live far away or order via UberEats. If it's your only option though, you should still DEFINITELY go for it. No regrets.
They also have great condiments to accompany your pizza including the typical chili flakes and spicy oil, but also spicy honey and decent quality balsamic vinegar.
The staff are passionate about what they do and it shows. They are not the first Al Taglio/Roman style pizza place in Montreal, but from the many I have tried, they are currently the best. The passion they put into their work shows (And tastes) with the pizzas they serve. They went the extra mile and even called me as they were putting my pizzas in the oven so I could arrive when they were just getting out of the oven. I don't expect them to be able to continue doing something like that as their popularity increases, but it was extremely welcome. They were very kind, welcoming and great to chat with.
Absolutely a pleasurable experience all around. Get yourself out there and take a bite as soon as you're out of the restaurant (Keep your masks on around people and in shops!). If that's not possible and you're in their UberEats zone, do that. You'll be...
Read moreRoman Style Pizza with Pepperoni, Burrata and Spicy Hot Honey . So I've always loved a good pizza slice, and have been all over mtl trying to find the best styles, the best toppings, the best doughs... Etc... And I have to say that for this style of Roman style pizza @segreta_mtl as of right now might take the cake for me. Earning a spot on my top 5 of favourite pizzas in MTL and maybe even top spot for Roman Style Pizzas in MTL these guys love what they do and use great ingredients. . When ever a place is selling and using @biancodinapolitomatoes tomatoes I know they know quality ingredients! I was also surprised on the amount of foot traffic these guys had for the area they were in its crazy, happy to see a great spot getting so much love and attention! . One thing I'd do knowing now what I know is ordering the whole pizza, going to be cheaper then buying it by the slice but for a first time, you need to get a bunch of slices like we did, try them and see what's Ur favorite. They have great choices to choose from! They rise they're dough for over 72 hours and you can tell because u have a crunch from end to end...
Read moreFood tasted really good. Service was TERRIBLE. I don’t think we’ve ever gotten a service so terrible at a restaurant. We went yesterday evening around 6pm, we ordered 3 boxes of full pizzas to bring home for our family to try. After we chose what we wanted for the first box the girl kept giving us attitude as if we were bothering her. She and the guy at the cash kept laughing at us each time we’d choose a pizza and ask us if we’re done yet. When we asked if they had any Nutella cheese cake left the guy at the cash answered with such attitude “do you see it there or not, check” we said, we see a Nutella cheese cake but it’s where it says pistachio do we weren’t sure. He said no there isn’t any. Then another worker said to us that there was. We asked for burrata on our pizza and when we got in the car there was none. No way we were going back in there with such arrogant and rude workers. Sad because food tastes good but we won’t be returning or referring people to go try because of such...
