Haitian food is a specialty of Montreal. Besides the north, Haitian restaurants are sparsely peppered around the map, making this place the Haitian gem of St. Henri. Most Haitian restaurants I've dined at are pretty casual and don't have very impressive interiors. This place was an exception to this trend, although it was not a grand space it was decorated with love and had a nice atmosphere. The service was very professional. I really enjoyed my griot and the "makawoni" salad was some of the creamiest macaroni salad I've ever had. But my eyes wouldn't leave my friend's bowl - I really should have opted for that. We tried an appetizer as well that I don't recall the name of (short name, two words) that resembled a Haitian tostada. While the food was satisfying, this does not make it to my Top 3 among the Haitian restaurants I've tried in Montreal so far, some of the hole-in-the wall joints outshone Pikliz. But this is purely comparative, Pikliz is a very enjoyable experience overall especially for those less familiar with Haitian cuisine and would like to...
Read moreI had the most amazing time at Pikliz, a small Haitian spot in St-Henry. It's like they airlifted a piece of the Caribbean right into the city! The vibes, decor, and those mouthwatering smells totally set the scene.
The service was top-notch, and the staff were super friendly. Akim, the owner, personally checked on every table, making the whole experience feel extra special. We went there to celebrate a birthday, and they treated us like kings and queens.
Now, let's talk about the food. I ordered the Griot, and let me tell you, it was off the charts. So juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor. And then there's the Kabrit, the goat dish. It was hands down the best goat I've ever had in my life. To finish off the feast, we had the pineapple cake, and I'm still dreaming about it.
If you're in Montreal and craving some legit Haitian eats, Pikliz is the spot to hit. It's the perfect combo of awesome food, chill vibes, and friendly service that'll make your night...
Read moreNot bad but definitely not great for the price.
Cons: We were imposed group menu which is deceiving, we had already planned to eat kabrit and banan since we do don't eat pork nor rice however we were served several bowls of porc with very little kabrit with no plantains. Service needs to be addressed and Pikliz should be provided as a condiment on the table with akkra from the start, how is it that we get a tiny thing of Pikliz for 4 when the restaurants name is Pikliz... lol
Pros: Salad was delicious, kabrit was nicely cooked, presentation was nice, cute decor, clean bathroom (smells good) although I'm not a fan of akkra because I find it to be too greasy I was still able to appriciate its flavour and subtle spice taste. Would have been great with pikliz on the side, aïoli was tasty.
Overall impression; Salade was the best part! Cute decor/atmosphere with a story, service needs much improvement, highly overpriced (group menu)...
