Everything felt wrong the moment we stepped into the restaurant. At first, we wanted to do takeout and the restaurant manager/owner showed hesitation and said that it will take a while to make the food. So, we decided to sit in instead.
When we were ordering, we asked for the chicken biryani and the waitress immediately made a face and said we don’t serve that at night. When we asked why, she said it will just take a long time to make it, so it depends. Basically, they will serve the damn food when they feel like it. We couldn’t be more confused. I order the chana masala and my friend ordered the chicken vindaloo. It came with naan and salad. Both dishes were $15 each.
Firstly, it took them over 40 mins to cook the food and bring it to our table. The food portions were small, it tasted bland, and there were 4 pieces of chicken in the vindaloo filled with potatoes. I don’t think they even added salt in the chicken vindaloo. I was disgusted at that point. An Indian restaurant charges you $15 for a curry, they should serve a decent size of the curry with even meat pieces. That is a generalized rule every restaurant follows. They basically charged us money for food a 5 year old would make. In fact, 5 year olds are much more talented. Please stop calling yourselves an "authentic Indian cuisine", because there was nothing Indian about your food whatsoever. You guys refused to serve us biryani. It's like going to an Italian restaurant and not serving pasta when requested.
Lastly, the restaurant owner/manager was the rudest, arrogant and bossy manager I have ever encountered. We did not directly communicate with him; however, we were aware of his behaviour towards his staff. He did not do anything, besides sit on a table and order his staff to do work. All he did was say Bonjour, out loud to the customers, and that was pretty much it. He yelled at one of the waitresses and even snapped his fingers at her when showing her how to do something. I have never in my entire life seen a manager/owner treat their employee this way. I was shocked and it made me angry to see this. When I paid for our food, I still gave a tip to the waitress, but it was a stingy tip because the service and food was absolutely beyond disgusting. And to top it off, when we looked back we saw the manager/owner was looking at our receipt, made eye contact with us and gave us a dirty look, obviously for not giving enough tips; which made me realise, that he probably pockets all the tips.
We are from Toronto and this was my first time in Montreal and it was definitely one of the worst experiences I have had on my first visit to Montreal. I have never been so disgusted with a business service before. I’ve learned my lesson. When you feel hostility just stepping into a...
Read moreThe presentation of the food was nice, but the actual meal itself really lacked flavor. I've had much better indian food for a more decent price in other indian restaurants. The server wasn't very kind and was disrespectful. My boyfriend and I look quite young for our age and there was a mix up in the order. Instead of the server fixing the mistake, she lectured us on how to properly order one of the meals like we were children when we're actually in our 20's. Some of the service was nice, but our main server was really rude. I would not recommend going. - The server understood that I had ordered the "poulet cari", when I ordered the "thali au poulet". She did not offer to change the meal, telling us that we had to make sure not to mix up the words next time (not say "poulet thali" but "thali au poulet") and insisted that we said "poulet cari". She then added "Am I clear, you understand?" in a very rude manner. For 13$, I got a small bowl of cari chicken with 5-6 small pieces of dry chicken, a cold salad, and a naan bread. For 2$ more, I could have had several side dishes. Yet she never offered to simply take my plate back, add what was missing and fix the price. Bad...
Read moreOnce again, I had the pleasure of eating at the Tandoori Maison today.
I took my daughter - and my three year old granddaughter with me. It was their first time and I have lost count how many times I have had the pleasure of visiting this Jewel in the Crown Restaurant.
From arrival to departure, the experience was wonderful (as usual) The greetings, the attentive staff and the amazing cuisine that is always served there - a truly amazing evening. My daughter and granddaughter both fell in love with the place - as I did many years ago.
My daughter enjoyed her meal so much, she ordered a meal to go in order to enjoy it heated up in the coming days.
If you are lucky enough to live close to this restaurant, don’t look for reasons not to go - I would urge you to go and enjoy a feast that you will not forget for a long time! I also firmly believe that your first visit will not be your last visit.
Sadly, I live west of Toronto and can only attend on an occasional basis.
I highly recommend this restaurant - it is my favourite Indian restaurant in Canada.
Enjoy my...
