I'll say it's a Chinese take on Japanese sushi. It wasn't what I was expecting. I didn't like it much. A lot of overwhelming sauce already on the sushis, you can't properly taste the ingredients in them. We had the sushi for 2, chef's choice, 32 pieces futomakis + some seared sushis.
There was 3 kind of mayonnaise sauce on the plate : sesame (didn't taste it much), spicy and.... an odd one? We didn't use them much since so many sushis already had so much sauce on it. Out of the 5 kinds of futomakis we had, I like maybe 2 of them.
The ones that didn't had any sauce on them, didn't taste much. I find it sad that you need to hide the blandness with sauce. The ingredients are the stars in Japanese sushi, not the sauce or soy sauce. One of the characteristics of sushi I like is to taste the freshness of the ingredients.
The seared sushi weren't done with the usual blow torch, they used a Chinese searing technique which is pouring hot oil on the sushi. Quite something to watch as they pour it in front of you, but not what we wanted or expected. The sushi were taking a bath in the oil.
I like my sushi traditional. But hey, if you want to see how Chinese would adapt sushi, maybe this...

Sushi were blend, all taste the same and was lacking freshness of ingredients. We ordered the sushi for two (32 pieces), ate like 14 of them mostly because we were hungry.
Also ordered the 5 fingers tartar. I did not know tartar was supposed to be fried…taste like can tuna put into a ball shape and plunge into the fryer. Stomach 2 of the 5 and discard the rest.
Service was fast and staff seems nice.
I’m rating my overall experience on that specific day, cant tell for the usual stuff…who knows, maybe the chef wasn’t there that day and the cleaner step in to make the sushis.
My gf comment of the sushi was : this is disgusting lets bounce...
Read moreFirst time going to Tori Tora today! Was impressed with the sushi, a huge variety of flavors and I appreciate the fact that the waiter named each sushi roll and described them to us when they got to our table. My only down side was the size of the entree, I asked in advance about the size whether we should order 1 or 2 and the waiter insisted that the Calamari entree would be big enough for my boyfriend and I but it was barely enough for 1 person, but other that that I was impressed with the customer service as well and how quick the sushi got to the table and how fresh it was when we got it (considering how...
