The level of unprofessional and rude behaviour is truly shocking!
They wouldn't know etiquette and civility if it tapped them on the shoulder. I've been traveling to Montreal for years, I've traveled the world and I've never encountered anything like this. This pathetic man had the audacity to look over my shoulder to see what I had on my phone screen, and then poceeded to antagonize me and argue regarding my leaving an honest review. So not only was there a gross violation of my privacy but I was berated simply for leaving my honest feedback.
If it's 7 degrees out and there's several empty tables I could not for the life of me tell someone that a drink has to be to go after they bought it. These people would have you leave, and will kick you out, if you only order a bubble tea and do not order food even if they have plenty of room and it's cold out. The most I could ever do is apologize to a customer and tell them BEFORE they pay if all the spots are already taken. He argued he later instructed an employee to do that, but he's the one who took the order and he very well could have said something before I bought it. The only reason I bought the drink was to escape the cold.
Don't dare look at people's screens and make the moronic mistake of thinking arguing and berating will get you out of the review you deserve! If that is your reaction to honest feedback, you have no place running a business, and if you can't respect people's privacy you have no place being out in public period point blank. I have never had a stranger think they can just casually start an argument over what I have on my phone screen, nor is it something I would ever do. If you think that is normal behaviour, you weren't...
Read moreMy daughter and I went there last night after exploring Montreal on foot. Both of us love soup dumplings and we decided to go to Yum Yum after reading some of the positive reviews. It’s a quaint family restaurant with just a few tables and a light, pleasant atmosphere. As we found out during out stay, the wife manages the open kitchen with support staff, forming fresh dumplings non stop, while the husband manages the guests in a very friendly manner and a level of efficiency and attentiveness I have seldom encountered in other restaurants in general. Upon our arrival, the restaurant was full and we decided to wait for what was to be around 30 minutes. During that time several more people arrived who were told that it would be about 1hr. Over the couple of hours we stayed there, we noticed all of them returning at some point. The menu is extensive, with the entire left page dedicated to soup dumplings. Wow. We ended up trying four different varieties - pork/shrimp/chives, pork/shrimp/mushrooms, chicken/coriander and pork/cabbage. In subtly different ways they were all absolutely delicious. The broth was mild but tasty and their homemade chili crunch oil is an excellent condiment to our taste. We observed other patrons being served a variety of other dishes that looked scrumptious but these comments apply solely to the soup dumplings. My daughter and I agreed that they were among the very best we’ve eaten anywhere and that our visit to Yum Yum was the first of...
Read moreWe were visiting from Toronto and stumbled upon Yum Yum – hands down the highlight of our trip! The soup dumplings were nothing short of perfection. Each one had a delicate, paper-thin wrapper that burst with rich, savory broth and tender, flavorful filling. You could taste the freshness and quality in every bite. We also ordered noddles with beef and we absolutely inhaled it. We are VERY big foodies and this is our top 5. They WILL have a line up out the door so make sure you get there early. Be prepared to eat here again.
What truly made the experience unforgettable was the hospitality. The staff welcomed us like old friends, going above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. I haven’t seen such warmth from a restaurant in so long. They were attentive, friendly, and genuinely passionate about their food. Their thoughtful recommendations made the meal even more memorable.
Yum Yum isn’t just a restaurant – it’s an experience. If you’re craving authentic, soul-warming soup dumplings and food with outstanding service, this place is an absolute must. We’re already counting down the days until we can return! Ps. You have try their oil. We bought...
