Pür & Simple — Restaurant in New Brunswick

First, I want to say that I have a lot of experience with breakfast restaurants. I've been to hundreds of different restaurants serving breakfasts and visited the Pur&Simple locations in Moncton and Dieppe numerous times (probably around 15 times combined). I must say that the Edmundston location have work to do to be up to par with the Moncton and Dieppe locations. I'm hopeful they will get there eventually since they only opened this location recently. In the mean time, they still have multiple shortcomings to work on.

Food : The eggs in the brioche and bagel sandwiches should default to be cooked over hard like they do at the other locations. My girlfriend ordered a pur morning bagel sandwich and the egg was runny which is suboptimal for such a sandwich to say the least. I myself ordered Norwegian egg benedicts. I asked for the eggs to be poached medium and I received overcooked hard eggs. I think the kitchen has a hard time to manage the cooking of the eggs when there is a lot of orders being processed at the same time. This never happened at the other locations. The last issue was the quality of the oranges. Weirdly enough, one of our orange quarter had a yellow and green peel and the other had what looked like a dirty black spot about the size of a finger tip. It could be a supplier issue or maybe we were unlucky and had a bad batch.

Location and interior : The interior has a Pur&Simple feel and is very similar to other locations with the addition of a small kid play room which is nice for families. The only issue with the interior (this is also an issue at the other locations) is the lack of sound control. They should really consider adding sound panels to the ceilings to reduce sound reflections and echos. A lot of discrete and fashionable solutions exists for this issue, and they are frequently used at other restaurants.

As for the location of the restaurant, this is the worst possible case scenario. The restaurant is just meters away from the Twin River paper mill and the smell is absolutely horrible. This is a recurrent issue for the city as the paper mill can be smelled more than 20 km away. However, building a restaurant so close to it will for sure reduce your appetite especially when you get out of the car to enter the restaurant. However, once inside the smell mostly disappears. They seem to have a pretty good air filtering system which is almost mandatory for commerces this close to the paper mill.

The good things : Even considering the issues mentioned above, this is probably the best restaurant for breakfast in Edmundston. The city only has a population of ~16 000 and until now never had a restaurant with such a breakfast selection. The selection completely dwarf the selection of the other restaurants in the region. It is also one of the few restaurants with sweet breakfasts. In my opinion, the only other restaurant that could compete with this one is the Frank’s Bar and Grill. They have a small menu selection but their food quality is through the roof. Every other restaurants in the region have a cheep feeling, and they are mostly limited to traditional breakfasts.

Conclusion : In my opinion, Pur&Simple in Edmundston has a unique market position and I expect it to thrive and become a go to place in the region. I know they will get better and I will be back in 4 months to...

Waited 15 minutes after being seated for someone to take our order, and only after getting the attention of a busboy. Coffee took another 10 minutes to arrive (stale and cold). Then somebody else’s breakfast arrived at our table! Still waiting, so we’re just looking at the very busy menu…dozens of good looking choices…wish I could get just one!

Finally! But wait…no butter with the pancakes, and where’s my toast???

They really make a big deal about their “famous P&S potatoes”. They weren’t to my taste mainly because I’m not a fan of deep-fried (and dripping in grease) potato chunks.

I’m also out of coffee. I think I’ll get up and refill it myself.

Lots of upselling going on here too. There’s a bottle of maple syrup (labelled Pur & Simple) on the table, but they try to upsell you to “real maple syrup”. Also, regular orange juice or overpriced “freshly squeezed”

Got our bill. The $4 pancakes were charged at $5.

1er fois : La nourriture était FROIDE. Ma soeur s'est plainte de pattate trop salé surtout en les comparant au Pur & Simple de Moncton et elle n'a pas été écouté. Les mienne était correct, mais j'avais un peu froid dû à l'air climatisé et la nourriture qui était froide est rapidement devenu glaciale...Le service était celle d'un débutant, donc il y a de l'amélioration. Par contre, la nourriture était bonne,mais aurait probablement été meilleur chaud.

2e: J'y ai retourné et là c'était beaucoup mieux. Le repas était chaud, les frites pas trop salé et délicieuse, la soupe était pas pire, mais ne se comparait au frites et le club (j'y ai été pour le lunch). Le service était beaucoup mieux. J'ai augmenté d'une étoile et je vais continué de changer selon mes expériences, mais je bâtie sur la première et le premier rating que j'ai donné qui était un mois passé.

3e: Il est dommage qu'une partie de leur menu n'est pas valide durant la fin de semaine. Le service était bon même si occupé, mais tu vois que la priorité pour faire assir les gens sont les plus gros groupes, car ils peuvent faire plus d'argent. J'étais la première dans cette ligne là et j'ai été la dernière a être assise...tout en considérant que j'ai attendu beaucoup plus longtemps que les autres. C'est insultant quand plusieurs un peu plus gros groupes passe avant toi et ton amie... Le reste de l'expérience était bonne. Je ne diminue donc pas ou ne l'augmente pas...

4e: Tou était délicieux. J'ai pris le philly steak et c'était messy et trop bon. Le service était excellent aussi. Tu vois qu'ils savent plus ce qu'il s font. Il manque parfois un peu d'organisation pour le personnelle en avant, mais à part ceci tout était excellent.

Je n'ai pas retourné au restaurant a nouveau par contre les commentaires laissé par la correspondance ici n'est pas comparable a d'autres restaurant. C'est a travaillé. En ce qui est de l'attente je comprends pour un ou 2 groupes passe avant les petits groupes, mais ça veut dire que vos petits groupe sont négligé ce qui est inacceptable surtout pour une période de temps assez élevé. 3 et je crois même 4 groupes ont passé avant nous et certains n'ont pas attendu, tandis que nous attendions. Vous semblez assumé beaucoup de chose lorsque vous répondé prenez le temps de bien lire et parfois il est mieux de ne pas répondre. Ou de posez quelques questions pour des précisions. En ce qui concerne des réservations nous avons décidé de nous rencontrer au restaurant dernière minutes, alors ce n'est pas toujours une possibilité.

Je continue maintenant d'y retourner un bon endroit pour manger...
