I book music and comedy acts in town and for over 10 years and I have used this hotel for them to stay in. The main reasons for this is because it's near the venues and we were getting a good rate as frequent customers.||||During the pandemic I have not been able to book shows. When we were finally able to do so I called to reserve a room. My first turn off is when the person who answered me said he didn't speak French in a city where 98% of the people do. I asked to make a reservation and the price he quoted was almost $100 more than what I would normally pay. I asked to speak to Pit the owner, only to be told that he sold it off and the person I was talking to is the new owner, who is from out of town and doesn't know anyone.||||I explained the arrangement we had with the previous owner. He said he could not honor the previous price, I understand inflation but the price was almost 75% more. He quoted me a different rate which was a little more reasonable so I accepted and he said he would give me deals in the future as well. He also insisted on me providing him a credit card number to confirm the reservation, something the previous owner NEVER did before. I only gave in because he would not accept the reservation otherwise. Up until that point I had a sour taste in my mouth, but I was willing a to build a trusting relationship with him.||||On the day of the booking the artist comes up to me saying he had to pay full price. So I went there and spoke to the owner. He denied ever giving me the rate that he had quoted me weeks earlier. He claims he had written it down, but conveniently couldn't find it when I asked him to show me.||||I once again explained that it would be in his best interest to provide a deal like the previous owner did, as I book shows all year and he will profit from it. He outright refused. I explained to him that he is not the only game in town, the previous owner was a nice man who we wanted to support, but if he wanted the same loyalty he would have to do the same in return. ||||He kept saying he couldn't offer a better deal, then later said he would do so for future bookings, so contradicting himself again. ||||I told him that keeping his original word would show good intentions to work with me. He is from out of town and not originally from Canada. He probably moved here after saving his money in a larger Canadian city and searched for an opportunity to be a business owner. He had a great opportunity to built a rapport with local townsmen to ensure that the Motel's reputation remains positive.||||I kindly asked him three times to honor the original agreement, otherwise I will be taking my business elsewhere. When I asked him a final time I clearly stated to him that if he refuses again then he will lose my business, my trust and future referrals. Not to mention good local word of mouth which is important for a new owner. He still refused so I left telling him I would never use his hotel ever again to book artists. He didn't seem to be phased by it.||||He doesn't seem to grasp that he has a small two star hotel and his prices are now the same as the other big hotels in town. Why would anyone want to stay there now that his prices are not as competitive as big chain hotels? I use to see the "No Vacancy" sign often but to be honest, I haven't seen the "No" sign appear since last summer.||||Since then I have booked over 10 different shows and they have been staying elsewhere. It's his lost and he had every opportunity to make things right...
Read moreWe stayed at the Happy Motel a total of two nights, one week apart. We were 3 couples with two rooms on the first floor. We were charged a double room occupancy and a single room occupancy. The first night we were satisfied with the accommodations on the first floor. It is not a new motel, but it was clean and the beds comfortable. We can, with strong reservation, recommend it if you are given a room on the FIRST floor. For clarity, the reservations for both nights stay was booked a month ahead of time. We thought, incorrectly, that we’d be provided with the same two rooms when we’d be coming back. This wasn’t the case. My husband and I arrived a couple of hours earlier than the other two couples. For the six adults in our party, we were given a “suite” (small apartment) with two bedrooms, each with two queen beds, a single bathroom and a kitchen living space combo. We were informed that this was the only available space left. We were not pleased in having to share one bathroom, but we had a 7-hour drive ahead of us the next day. It was late so we decided to pay for the 2nd room located in the suite without looking at it first which was a BIG MISTAKE. First the climb: the metal stairs leading to the “suit” were rusted, to the point that the rust had eaten through some of the metal on the steps and the last 3 bottom stairs were loose, soft and felt dangerous. The kitchen area was filthy: the sink was dirty, some glasses were left on the dirty dishrack, the table and fridge were not very clean (sticky), and when we tried to remove a glass from the cabinet, it was stuck. The musty / moldy smell of the place was so STRONG that we decided to open the air conditioning and window to air out the place, though it was a lost cause. As both rooms had two queen beds, two couples would share one room and the third would be on their own. We were told that IF the second bed in the 2nd room was used that we WOULD be charged for a double room occupancy. Upon arrival of the two remaining couples, one of them requested another room or a reimbursement. They were informed that they could not be reimbursed and that there were no other rooms available. After some discussion SURPRISE, SURPRISE, a room was found on the first floor in a supposedly no vacancy motel. Because of the issues that we encountered on our second night stay; we do NOT...
Read moreLooking at the reviews i had to have a chuckle at the two, one stars. Wisemans lament at no phone, shampoo or conditioner. In a world that gives pre-teens cell phones having no phone in the room, meh. On the hair products? Leaving a one star over that is first world trolling. This is a BUDGET motel. Taskirans review same week similar angst about the blinds made me think, these two traveled together. Although Taskirans review was more informative I suspect he had a bad night due to Wisemans neurosis over her bad hair experience. Finaly my three star review. I rarely give out one stars. Those are just competitors being bitchy. Five stars are fast food equivalents cheap and suspect. One star for clean and comfy. Second star for price. I cant give anymore points out because this is where it fails, the walls are thin. The in wall air-conditioner is pretty much a hole in the wall that let me hear every sound outside. Hallway sounds of doors opening and closing. Oh and the man child's poor selection of loud music somewhere outside at three in the morning. So there you have it. Ones a given and two more from me makes it three. I wont be using this place again. The sleep quality was poor otherwise I'd have posted...
