One of our favourite restaurant during the entire trip. The décor and atmosphere was informal and fun in a genuine way. Staff was friendly warmed to us quickly following the multiple times we returned. The gift shop and the café are merged together in a way where you could wander the gift shop while waiting for our food or simply sit at a table. It isn’t a large eating area but I found there was always enough seating. Some of the souvenirs are kind of tacky but there is plenty of selection. They also have a Christmas room with lots of Christmas items!
The food was spot on. The favourite was the seafood chowder closely followed by the moose soup or the fish cake special. We enjoyed the food so much that we returned several times during our trip. Their chowder is a warm dairy base without being thick and starchy—I enjoyed this consistency emensely. I believe you can do “boxed meals” if you’re planning on heading out to the hiking spots or otherwise. They have relatively broad hours and you can be assured that you will be able to get something to eat or pick up a last-minute souvenir.
A good spot for something quicker, less formal or if you’re not in the mood to think more about it. You won’t be...
Read moreLovely shop. It is a treasure indeed. They sell all sorts of knickknacks and decor. There’s a huge section of clothing with locally made 100% wool sweaters/ toques/ mitts/ socks that is a serious must-buy considering how affordable and well knitted they feel (i sweat immediately trying on a toque). You want locally made very affordable quilts? There are some, too. There’s a small section for jams. They also carry saltwater taffy. And then there’s a restaurant with lovely homemade food. Touton and molasses? 100% would recommend. Fish cakes were light, crispy on the outside and fresh on the inside, not oily at all. The only letdown was the moose sausage (they were dry for our taste and would benefit from some fat or herb). They also sell breakfast and wraps to-go for hikers and some local games (moose pate!). The ladies running the shop are so lovely....
Read moreTreasure Box Café – Cozy Charm & Endless Souvenirs The Treasure Box Café has a cozy, cluttered aesthetic that I instantly fell in love with. The place was bustling when I visited—tables full, staff busy—so I didn’t end up eating here. Instead, I happily (and accidentally) blew way over my budget on souvenirs. And what a selection! They have an incredible variety—almost anything you could imagine—making it one of the most impressive souvenir stops I’ve seen.
My only minor gripe is the bathroom location, tucked right beside the cashier and café counter. Still, the constant crowd is a testament to how amazing this place is. I went back three or four times during my trip, and it was busy every...
