Fat Bastard Burrito Co. — Restaurant in Newmarket

This has always been my fav place to eat. The sizing, the taste, the staff. I was so happy. When we moved to Newmarket, I was so sad there wasn’t one. When they not only opened one in Newmarket but within walking distance to me, I was extremely excited.

The first year or two were good, but we haven’t eaten there in probably 9-12 months. Every-time we went, it was a disappointment, staff would seem upset when you walked in, inconsistently given different portions.

My last visit will be my last. I asked what size bowls they had again. I was told just one. Which looks half the size of what it used to be. That’s fine, I just got a burrito. I asked what their medium size was and was told we only have two sizes. I asked what the medium size was before and was told we only have two. So I had to repeat myself a third time asking when they had 3 sizes, what was the medium size? Finally got my answer. I wasn’t trying to be difficult, but the customer service there, it’s like you’re inconveniencing them. Last time I went there was 2 bowl options and 3 burrito options, I didn’t know that changed. Both employees seems annoyed as soon as I walked in.

UPDATE: After reading a few positive reviews, I decided to try it again. This place is still bad; the portions are very small, cold, and not fresh. I have sent a detailed email regarding this issue, before this visit, I have received no answer. The new “positive” reviews seem fake and created by friends and family. I am very disappointed in the owner that their only focus is on profit and not quality, and I am distraught to see the leading corporation allowing a franchise to run wild without following quality standards.

I have ordered from this location twice, and I am very, very disappointed. I ordered veggie bowls, and the quantity is so low that the bowl is not even half full. Everything is cold. I expected the Sauteed veggies to be warm, but even that, they are not fresh and old/cold. The food quality and quantity are terrible in this location.

I often order from Fat Basterd, which is located in Mississauga (Heartland) or Toronto's downtown location. They offer amazing quality and quantity.

The food is alright for the price and what it is. Only issue is with the staff. The attitude they give their customers is appalling. I noticed when the girl was changing the rice, water from the bottom of the container that was in the heating table went RIGHT into the rice she was putting out. She started to make my burrito and I kindly pointed out that the dirty water went right into the fresh rice. She seemed very annoyed that I mentioned changing the rice again. She did go and get new rice, but then proceeded to literally slap my burrito together. Slapping all the ingredients over it, clearly upset about having to change the rice. I wouldn't be surprised if she put back the rice after we left.

Also, an open concept kitchen is supposed to help ease the minds of the customers, but not this one. It was disgusting. Food all over the place. Why would anyone want to eat at a place where the staff clearly don't care about customers and the cleanliness off their workplace. If you're that miserable working...
