Don't let the outside fool you, it did to me and I regret not trying this place so much earlier. The inside has the atmosphere of a nice and kozy restaurant, the staff is so welcoming and nice.
We came around dinner time and it was busy with takeouts and all that jazz, we came in and waited for a bit for our food but the staff came to us reassuring us that the food will arrive and that they are busy with takeouts, they gave us miso soup while we waited and service edamame as well. The lady was making sure we were doing well and that the food was up to expectations.
The plating is nice and aesthetically pleasing to look at and eat from. It felt like a nice experience.
The pricing is so fair for all their rolls and combos, we had salmon combo 1, hulk roll, Kappa rolls, pressed salmon rolls and all were amazing. The fish tasted very fresh and everything was up to par.
At the end of our meal, the chef came out and apologized for the inconvenience and we were perfectly fine specifically after tasting such amazing food.
For the first time, leaving a more than average tip amount that felt deserved to the staff. The staff is so kind and they make sure to show care.
I have never felt this, but after leaving the restaurant, this might be funny, but I hate the staff for being so nice and serving up so tasty food and having such a nicely decorated establishment.
Definitely worth a try if you are in the Newmarket / east Gwillimbury area. I love this place, my favorite sushi spot as of now. A hole in the wall type place for good...
Read morePerhaps my dining companions and I made some grave mistake and ordered the "wrong" items-- though I explicitly recall our waitress, who was a real sweetheart, noting that at least one of the items we'd ordered was very popular--, however, the disparity between my recent experience at Kozy and the 4.9 rating I see here, on Google, could not be more far nor wide apart. Seriously struggling to reconcile this highly inflated rating with the reality of the grub we were served. Not to say it was the worst sushi I've had, that's nowhere near the case, but for an a la carte eatery, we were very let down (and, apologies for bringing it up again, but especially considering such a high rating spread across so many reviews). I found the overall quality to be about on-par with mid-tier AYCE sushi spots, and in no dish was a higher quality on display than that- not even approaching some of the better AYCE spots, let alone a decent a la carte. All of the forgettable, bland, sushi apart, the chicken karaage was perhaps the saddest representation of the dish I've encountered to date- something akin to KFC popcorn chicken, just not as well-seasoned. And this is really nitpicking the minutiae, however, not having a proper spoon for the udon was such an easily fixable oversight. The highlight of our visit was the warm service, and that's it. Looking forward to never eating here again....

Food tasting wise, it’s not that bad, better than what I expected. We ordered these items:
Fried chicken appetizer: it’s nice and hot but not juicy as I would expect. It is very crunchy on the outside… if it’s more juicy, it would be perfect.
2 maki rolls, it’s quite good and I particularly like the cucumber inside the roll are cut into really thin strips.
Tuna Don - this one is good considering the tuna they give you. Nicely sliced and decorated and tuna is very soft. I don’t think the piece of thyme there is necessary as to me, I personally don’t like thyme aroma with the tuna but not a biggie, I just felt I am wasting the herb. 🥲 it’s a good bowl of Tuna rice for the asking price! 👍 if they use better grade wasabi, even better. I actually wouldn’t mind restaurant offer me the option to pay more for better grade wasabi.
vegetable yaki udon - it’s nicely stirred fried, it’s little too wet and a little salty for me. I still like the dish but I would like it even more if it is abit less salty and...
