Sunnyside Grill Newmarket — Restaurant in Newmarket

When we visited the place a month ago, we thought it would be our new spot. The service was excellent, food was good and delivered fast, the waitress was very attentive and pleasant. So, last Friday we decided to grab a quick lunch with our friends. Oh, Lord! Big mistake! We had a different waitress, younger - I guess less experienced, very slow but she was trying. But the big problem was with the kitchen. Awful. The food came wrong and cold, one sandwich had a long black hair, which was disgusting, food took too long for a breakfast place. The woman in the kitchen was constantly yelling at the other cook, the atmosphere was not welcoming! They were arguing non-stop. In the middle of all this, the woman while cooking picks up her cellphone and starts chatting (in Spanish I would guess) . Meanwhile people are waiting for the food. Then she drops everything and leaves the kitchen to chat even more. We heard other folks complaining about the food taking long. We left without finishing our meals. What an awful experience!...

We arrived at this breakfast place at exactly 12:00pm on a Sunday and noticed they were not that busy as only a couple of the tables were occupied. We gave in our order 10 minutes after we arrived however we were not served our food until 1:40pm. After about an hour we asked our server how long the wait would be as we would’ve been fine paying for our coffee and going elsewhere. The server said about 10 minutes which we would not have minded at all. That 10 minutes turned into 30 minutes turned into another hour. We waited nearly 2 hours for 3 servings of eggs and were given no explanation or apology for the outrageous wait. We did however notice they kept accepting Uber eats orders which took priority over their waiting tables. The cutlery and cups were stained and dirty and the place was highly under staffed. I have only been to this restaurant a couple of times, but it has been highly recommended by friends who visit it frequently.

I’m not sure of the name of our server, but he was cheerful, super friendly, and very attentive and efficient. If it helps to identify him, both times it was Thursday morning around 10:00 am.

The first time I had a breakfast special, I don’t recall what the special was on that day, but I DO know that I was quite impressed by the quality of the food.

The second time I had the ‘build your own’ omelette, and it was delicious! The portion size was ample, and I probably could have split it, or taken half of it home, but it was so yummy, I ended up eating it all!

I wish I’d taken pictures of my meal(s), but I was hungry, and it was gone before I thought of it.

I’d highly recommend Sunnyside Grill. It was super clean, yet had that ‘old school’ atmosphere. 🤗
