Initial review: Ordered a takeout and was pleasantly surprised. Quite decent casual/everyday sushi place - quality food, generous amount and nice presentation. Larger size miso soup and some rolls. Also included a bonus item. Will order again.
Update: Ordered again. We ordered sushi and bento box with steak (medium rare). When order was picked up we realized, that instead of a bento box we got a steak teriyaki (well done). My husband called the restaurant to see if they can fix the mix up and they said that bento boxes are only served for lunch. First, we ordered based on paper menu, that never stated that, second - the lady that was taking the order should have mentioned it. But things happen, we understand, so were expecting some solution. They offered to cook a new steak to make it medium, but refused to address the bento box situation. E.g. apologize for confusion, make an exception this one time or at least reimburse the price difference or add an app to make up for miscommunication. Nothing was offered.
Sushi quality is good, other food (we tried steak teriyaki & curry) - so-so, customer service is poor. Will...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSome of the worst sushi Iāve ever had. Me and my partner wanted to try Nigiri-ya since it was new to town. We took a look at reviews and the menu online with the accompanied pictures so we knew what to expect.
The service was really nice and fast. We were served miso soup and salad and those were fine.
However nothing matched the pictures online. My udon was bland hardly any toppings, and the noodles were overcooked, the shrimp tempera was undercooked and oily, the pumpkin tempera was brown and slimy looking (I didnāt bother to try and eat it). The rice in the bento was stale and didnāt taste right. The gyoza, seaweed salad, were fine. The salmon teriyaki wasnāt even teriyaki, it was a plain grilled salmon filet with sauce served on the side. The dynamite roll was just a shrimp tempera with a tiny bit of spicy sauce. My partners spicy roll combo wasnāt good either. The fish inside didnāt look fresh at all, the tuna looked dark and old and the salmon looked squishy and slimy.
Instead go to pho fusion a few doors down, they have awesome Vietnamese dishes for a fraction...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe quality of their sushi is unbelievable in every detail. I ordered a custom platter, veggie futo maki, yam roll, salmon sashimi and stuffed mushroom. Their rice is made with the perfect balance of zesty and sweet, unlike most other sushi places that make their rice too heavy either on sugar or vinegar. The ratio of the ingredients in their rolls is meticulously portioned out so that you can taste each ingredient without having one overpower the other. The texture, colour, and flavour of the salmon sashimi are a display of freshness at its finest. I find deep fried yam in other sushi places gets too greasy when it gets cold but the yam roll at Nigiri-ya tastes consistently great even after the roll has been sitting there for a while. And the stuffed mushrooms were absolutely fantastic. I can't believe I had all of this amazing experience from a take-out order, at such a good price too. The chef here is a truly a...
