If you've been craving an escape to Mexico but can't quite justify the plane ticket, I have just the place for you. Jarocho Mexican Cuisine.
Stepping into Jarocho was like crossing the border into Veracruz itself. The decor is a dazzling display of hand-painted motifs and colourful walls that scream "Viva Mexico!" High-seat chairs and traditional Mexican music set the scene for a dining experience that's as warm and inviting as a Mexican abuela's hug.
Now, let's taco 'bout the food! I ordered the Green Sauce (Tomatillo) Enchiladas, which were so damn good, they could make a mariachi band weep. Each bite was a harmonious blend of authentic spices and fresh ingredients, perfectly portioned to leave you satisfied but not stuffed. My daughter, on the other hand, dove into the tacos like a true aficionado. They were, in her words, "to die for!"
But hold your maracas; the real stars of the show were the churros and flan cake. The churros were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and dusted with just the right amount of cinnamon sugar—a dessert fit for the gods. The flan cake, made in-house that very day, was a creamy, dreamy delight that left every other flan I've ever had in the dust.
And let's not forget the Beef Birria! Picture this: tender beef lovingly swaddled in a rich consommé broth with chili's and spices, served with warm tortillas, onion, cilantro, and a gentle squeeze of lime. It's like a flavour fiesta in your mouth, and everyone’s invited!
At Jarocho, you get more than just a meal. You get an authentic Mexican experience that's worth every peso. The food may take a bit longer to arrive, but that's because it's prepared from scratch. This is authentic Mexican cuisine, not some fast-food assembly line. So, if you're looking for a true taste of Mexico, Jarocho is the place to be.
Though Jarocho doesn’t host special events or live music (yet), the essence of Veracruz is alive and well here. The staff? They're like the warm spice to our tortilla chips—warm, accommodating, and delightfully pleasant. They make the dining experience unforgettable.
So, if you're ready to ditch the microwaved bean mush and embrace the real deal, head over to Jarocho Mexican Cuisine. Your taste buds will thank you. ¡Buen...
Read moreThis is by far the worst restaurant dinner experience I had. Initially it seemed like there was a large family at the restaurant and seemed to be having a good time. The family ended up being relatives or friends of the restaurant owners/workers. The rest of the restaurant was completely empty. The menu has a lot of options, but is very limited for vegetarian options.
Being a vegetarian there was almost no options other than the empanada on the menu and had to order from the lunch menu. The prices are ridiculously high ($15 for a pitcher of water?!?!). The dish I ordered included a protein, since I don't eat meat I just asked for additional refried beans. All the food that was served did not look like it was cooked at the restaurant. It seemed like frozen or packaged food that was heated up. Not only did it look unappetizing, it also didn't taste good. After 2 bites I left the food as is. When the bill came, they had charged me extra for the refried beans. I found that extremely disappointing granted I essentially paid extra for a substitute of the protein. I had asked the waiter if the refried beans were just canned beans. He said yes with pride. After that I knew this is not a restaurant to take your friends or family. It confirmed for me that all the food that is cooked is not restaurant made. It is also way over-priced.
Overall this was not a good experience. It is too expensive for what it's worth and the food does not taste good at all. I would not recommend eating at this restaurant at all. Please save your wallet and stomach and choose a different...
Read moreI was excited to try this spot after hearing some good things about it on TikTok and have passed by before and it looked like a good spot. Unfortunately this was not the case. As soon as you enter, you smell some type of tire/car oil which I’m guessing is because of the neighboring unit.
Service is really slow, we noticed guests next to us had to ask few times to get water, dishes they were missing, and someone even got up to another table to grab napkins.
For appetizers we got the queso fundido, which was just so strange, as it was melted cheese. It wasn’t a dip or something you could actually spread/dip into, it was legit melted cheese in a skillet. I figured the mains would make up for this. Unfortunately I was mistaken.
The birria tacos looked fine, but you had to assemble yourself. The beef barbacoa plate was probably one of the worst dishes I’ve had at a restaurant. It arrived plated in a bowl full of oil as if was a stew/soup, absolutely foul. It was bland and had a weird smell to it, with absolutely no seasonings. The only delicious thing we ate was the sauces on the side and homemade tortillas.
Overall not a great place, service is very slow and not attentive and I would not recommend visiting. I’ve had authentic Mexican food, travelled to Mexico, this is absolutely not it. I love trying new places and supporting small business but this spot needs so much work. There are so many better Mexican spots in the area, I unfortunately would not...
