I ordered the mini or personal sized Great White North pizza from Score Pizza, and while the pizza is prepared and baked in front of you as soon as you order, I wasn't very impressed with the customer service, or lack of, by the lady who was serving the pizza from the stone oven; she seemed very uninterested to answer any questions or help when something was needed and seemed bothered and acted in a way that you should basically take care of whatever you need yourself? Other than the rude/weird customer service experience, the pizza had a very thin crust, almost as if it was a baked tortilla wrap, not like a traditional pizza crust or dough at all and the pizza I ordered seemed to not have much of the Italian sausage it should have, instead tons of mushrooms...not sure why. Also something to note: The employee who takes orders marks your order on the parchment paper that your pizza is placed on after baking with a black sharpie marker- I'm not sure if it's an actual sharpie marker or what I'd hope it be as a food-safe marker? Just something I observed as I don't like markers to be used on something that directly would be touching my food...if this was outside the packaging I'd understand. Overall, this was my first time visiting this restaurant in the Market & Co. section of the mall, and while the atmosphere is nice, I didn't have a good impression by the service and the food wasn't anything special. My friend who also ordered their Score Salad with chicken, received a Caesar salad instead... maybe we visited during the wrong...
Read moreAs Italian Canadians having eaten our way through Italy and having our own pizza making skills, it must be said that Score pizza would be at the top of our list of the perfect pizza. The trick to a great pizza is thin crust and fresh ingredients. This is what you can expect at Score pizza. The crust is thin, as it should be and the red sauce, which is what we chose, is spot on. As always, we only put 3 toppings. Those that overload with toppings may not appreciate the thin crust and all I have to say to that is less is more! And those that are accustomed to the Western version of pizza and food may have different thoughts and that’s ok. We visited on Saturday April 12th around noon. They were fairly busy hosting a kids birthday party in addition to other patrons. The service as always was great! We watched the staff as they prepared the pizzas and it was like a well oiled machine. The staff were very pleasant and at one point, a gentleman in a red shirt whom I think was the manager, and also working behind the counter, praised the staff for their teamwork. Even if he wasn’t the manager, the fact that he acknowledged their efforts was a nice gesture. He actually went to serve the pizzas to the kids party and stopped at our table to ask how we were enjoying our meal. Clearly he is someone that takes pride in his job and represents Score pizza very well. We don’t venture out to malls much anymore but when we do my husband wants to go to Newmarket because he gets to have a Score pizza! Tutti a tavola...
Read moreI’ve been a long-time regular customer at this location for the past five years and have always enjoyed the food and service.
Thanks to Ben M’s post, I just realized something I hadn’t known before:
“First and last time I will be visiting this pizza store. I ordered a regular BBQ pizza and saw the person ahead of me get a few custom pizzas loaded with toppings. I only found out afterward that unlimited toppings cost the same as the signature pizza I ordered—which had barely any toppings in comparison. Portion sizes also seem to vary depending on who's making it. They say comparison is the thief of joy, but in this case, I felt cheated.”
Honestly, I didn’t know about the unlimited toppings option either—and I can completely relate to that feeling. It’s definitely something that could leave a bad impression.
At the same time, I understand the challenge. Offering unlimited toppings at the same price might open the door to abuse if not managed well. Still, I think a little clarity or adjustment in how the menu and options are communicated would go a long way in maintaining goodwill and brand reputation.
On a positive note, I recently ordered two signature pizzas and asked for extra pepperoni and mushrooms—the staff were friendly and accommodating, which I really appreciated.
Thanks again to Ben for sharing his experience. Hopefully, with a few tweaks, Score Pizza can continue to be a favorite spot...
