Hubby will prob be mad at me for this review, Big Al's being a fave go-to here (& he hates crowds) but I hafta give credit where it's due..
It's one of Oliver's must-stop specialty shops, & our main reason for making the trip on our way to Rock Creek: for me, to pick up one of their ultra-fresh green salads (with a tub of vinaigrette on the side, it's nothing fancy but the perfect revival after a 5-hour drive) & for hubs, to stock up on their incomparable breads, buns & deli treats.
Everything at Al's is made from scratch right there - incl. gorgeous custom-order cakes for any occasion..
Tho it can't be called vegan, it's one of the few sources of local grass-fed organic cheese/ dairy I know of. And that's a step forward for all.. cows included!

Read moreFunny thing is I feel bad give this place one star but they’ve been consecutively rude to both me and my wife.
They mislabeled (and over priced) 3 bottles of Avalon heavy whipping cream we bought. When we went to use them to make a desert it was obvious that the bottles contained just table cream which is $2 a bottle cheaper.

They were like “call the company, we aren’t responsible for what’s in the bottle” I was like “you guys took the extra $6 bucks I spent on table cream that you guys were advertising as whipped cream what about that?” And they were still obstinate about it an took no responsibility. Happy to pocket the extra money I paid and just say “call the company”. Not...
Read moreWe’ve been coming up to the Oliver / Osoyoos area for several years but only discovered Big Al’s this year. We were staying at an AirBnB in Oliver and needed some dessert and some breakfast options for the next few days.
For desserts we chose some bright yellow Lemon Tarts which looked amazing and tasted even better! They were delicious! Spoke to the big man himself, he was really great as were the rest of the staff!
For breakfast we went with Cheese Scrumpets, which I guess is a combination of a crumpet and a scone. They were great heated up with some melted butter in the morning. They were the perfect way to start the day!
They have lots of amazing baked goods and meal options you can take home and warm up. We’ll have to come back to try some of their dine in food as it all looked really good! Put that on the list for our next...
