I had the pleasure of tasting Abe’s Buffalo Chicken Baked Pita, which was recommended by a work colleague. The food item itself had a solid complexion of flavours and textures. It was a healthy serving size, it was fresh, and it was enjoyable. Here’s where things go south. The Buffalo Chicken Baked Pita is advertised as $7.99, a happily acceptable price point. During the ingredient building process, sauces are recommended to add delicious elements to the meal. What the employees don’t tell you, is that the sauce is roughly $4. That’s half of the price of the pita, just to add sauce - and it’s not explicitly mentioned when a customer is considering options. The only warning of this MISTAKE of a business idea is a small sign in the corner of the shop, on a wall separate from the menu. This is not how you do business. Nickel and dime-ing your customers on what they expect to be free is how you lose business. Initially, I was happy to support the local business, so I purchased a high margin item in the form of ice tea. After realizing my total was now roughly $15 for a pita and a drink, I grudgingly paid the price and my review reflects the transaction. It’s one thing to offer premium product for a premium price, it’s another to trick your customers into paying %150 for what they expect. This review would be 3.5 stars if employees simply said “the sauce is $x.xx extra”, or if the menu price reflected the...
Read moreThis was almost certainly the best sandwich I've ever eaten. The meat is noticeably fresh. The bread is fantastic. The lettuce is crisp and green instead of limp and rusty like I'd come to expect from fast food sandwich shops.
And the FLAVOUR! Why are so many places afraid of flavour? The bread is brushed with seasoned butter before toasting. (At least I think it was butter; my mouth was watering too much to ask.) Seasoning is applied liberally throughout. The garlic mayo doesn't just "suggest" garlic, it proclaims it for all to hear. The chipotle ranch sauce was suggested to me as well. It's not a choice I would have made on my own. It was indeed the correct choice.
The price is on the premium side, with some of the large melts coming in around $15, but you get a lot of sandwich for your money. I walked in very hungry and still wound up taking some home for later. And by "later" I mean sometime in the next hour because, seriously, I can't stop thinking about this sandwich.
Abe is clearly very proud of his sandwiches, as he damn well should be. It's become abundantly clear to me why this place is considered a London institution, and you owe it to yourself to...
Read moreAbe’s Subs is an absolute gem! Every time I drive through Byron around lunchtime, I make a point to stop by. It is hands down the best sub shop in town, and quite possibly, the best I’ve ever been to.
The staff and the owner are absolutely fantastic. They always greet you with a smile and provide impeccable service that makes you feel right at home. Their passion for what they do shines through in every interaction.
The freshness of the ingredients is unmatched, and every sub is a flavor explosion. The bread is always perfectly baked, the veggies are crisp, and the meats are of the highest quality.
And let’s talk about the garlic mayo—it's nothing short of divine! It elevates any sub to a whole new level of deliciousness. I find myself craving it even when I’m not hungry.
Overall, Abe’s Subs is a must-visit spot for anyone looking for a delightful meal and outstanding service. If you haven’t been there yet, do yourself a favor and go. Highly...
