Golden Dragon Restaurant — Restaurant in Ontario

As a Byronite, we go here fairly often. The food is pretty good. On our most recent experience on New Year's Eve, we had a 7pm pickup time slot. Having used this place on countless New Year's Eve in the past, we knew that the pickup time would be late. However my complaint in this case was the total unorganized experience for actually picking up the food. There was a bunch of people on the sidewalk that had already ordered and waiting. Do you go into the store and pay? Do you wait outside? Is my order done? Who knows. I wound up being a concierge of sorts to new people showing up expecting that their pickup time was actually their pickup time. After finding out that you should go in, pay for your order, give them your cell number, they will call when ready. None of this was explained when we made the order. So I get it. It's New Year's Eve during a pandemic so it's likely busy and I totally understand that my order may be delayed if they get behind. I'm not super OCD about it. However, my feeling was that they didn't actually start to get our food ready until after we paid and gave our phone number. We got our food around 7:45p for a 7p pickup. They're not worth even 1 single star but I can't rate them 0 stars that's why I rated 1 star. I called with our order at 5:26, and they said it will be up to 45 minutes to deliver our order. It's now 7:03 and our order is still not here. I've just called them, and the lady who answered the phone said it should be there soon, as the driver just picked it up. I asked how soon approximately, and she said it will be about 25 more minutes. I asked "REALLY??? It has been over NINETY minutes already!!!" She said the weather is bad for the driver. I said it's +11 degrees outside and it's lightly raining. I asked if we could get a compensation, she said: "No, NEVER! We will just cancel your order if you can't wait anymore." (a total of over TWO HOURS!) I would NOT RECOMMEND for anyone to call this restaurant, they are superbly unorganized. They simply forget about your order, and they won't even take responsibility -- they won't admit they made a mistake, nor will they say they're sorry. After regularly enjoying the food at the Golden Dragon for many years, several times per year (esp on traditional days in the Chinese calendar when they prepare special menus of extraordinary dishes), I am confident to class it among a very short list of Chinese restaurants in London Ontario that offer extremely high quality in authentic forms and flavours. It ties for first place among no more than three or even two others in the City. Its dependable quality is always clearly to be seen in the high percentage of Chinese-speaking customers. The regional style is basically Southern, but they offer very good versions of dishes from the other culinary regions of China as well. The menu is conservative, but they occasionally offer innovative dishes, usually at the gourmet level, to give the chef creative room and to evolve the selections.
