Terrible experience, extremely poor customer service. We were excited to visit as I seen a great review from “the afternoon tea lady” on TikTok. I booked a reservation for 6 ppl (3 adults & 3 kids) for 2pm a few days in advance. I got a confirmation email back asking if we could arrive for 2:30pm instead. I confirmed this was okay and Keith one of the owners I believe replied. We arrived promptly at 2:30pm and the doors were locked... The female owner came to the door and told us we “missed” our 2pm reservations and was not very friendly. I told her that wasn’t correct and I can show the confirmation email. Clearly a mix up. Anyways, she let us in and pointed us to a 4 person table. The place is very small ( x2 larger tables up front and x2 smaller towards the back). I said no, our reservations are for 6 and our other two guest will be here in just a minute. (Another mix up) The lady seemed frustrated by this now. She said “well we only have a table of 4 ready for you , I’m not sure what we can do.” At this point it felt very awkward and as if we were a burden. Even though I booked for 6 ppl.. The weird thing is that literally no one else was in the restaurant and the two larger tables up front were still dirty from the last customers. I told the lady “if this is a big deal, no problem we can go elsewhere “ as she seemed very stressed and just not happy about our presence. She said it wasn’t a big deal and maybe they could push the two small tables together but after speaking with the owner Keith they realized it would be blocking the kitchen doors and didn’t offer us any other solution as we all just stood there.
We decided to leave due to the approach and attitude from the lady as we felt we would not be accommodated. We informed them about this and the lady employee became extremely argumentative and raising her voice .
I think the simplest solution would have been to acknowledge the mistake right away, apologize and have us wait a few minutes while they cleaned up a larger table, no?
Two of us drove from Essex and had 3 kids who were dressed in “tea” outfits and excited for this day. The whole situation was just weird and it seemed like the two owners have miscommunication with each other and email management. The lady did end up apologizing but in an argumentative tone. I get it’s a very small business and ran by two people, however, that’s not how customers should be treated... Our time /gas money was wasted and why would we even want to stay after practically being yelled at. Will...
Read moreI recently drove from out of town to visit this tea room, which I had been excited to try based on its seemingly quaint and charming reputation. Unfortunately, my experience was deeply disappointing.
I arrived promptly at 2:30 PM for my reservation, only to find the door locked. When the owner eventually opened the door, she immediately questioned whether we had a reservation. After I confirmed that we did, she curtly informed me that she had us down for 2 PM instead of 2:30 PM. Despite showing her confirmation for a 2:30 PM reservation for a party of six, she seemed unwilling to genuinely acknowledge the mistake and was far from apologetic.
I also mentioned that two additional people were joining the party and asked if she could keep the door unlocked for them. At this point, she became visibly flustered and started making excuses, stating that our reservation was only for four people. It was evident she hadn’t written down the details of the reservation correctly. What was baffling, however, was that at the time we arrived, the tea room was completely empty. There are only four tables in the space, and while two table could easily have accommodated six people, she refused to rearrange or clean off that table, even though it would have taken just a few minutes. Instead, she made it seem like accommodating us was an impossible task and became increasingly rude and dismissive.
Rather than trying to resolve the situation and provide good customer service, the owner heightened the tension, making us feel like we were an inconvenience rather than valued customers. Her husband also emerged from the back at one point, but he did nothing to address the situation or smooth things over.
The lack of professionalism and hospitality was shocking. I had been genuinely excited to visit this tea room, but I left feeling unwelcome and frustrated. I will not be returning, nor will I recommend this establishment to anyone. Exceptional customer service is the cornerstone of any great experience, and unfortunately, this tea room failed...
Read moreEnjoyed the experience. Had never been to a tea room before and it was everything I expected. The food was decent and the tea delicious, the vibe was quite nice for a place so cozy. I took my husband and that was particularly nice, and the waiter we had at our initial sitdown was very polite.
Now, I wanted to leave a 5star, but I had a few things I didn't quite like. 1 of which was that when we came in, there were two tables occupied out of the 4 inside, and the single empty table was covered in dirty dishes. What surprised me was that during the hour and a half my husband and I were there, long after those people had left and the other guests had left as well, the dishes on every table were left in place, dirty. I've never seen someone leave tables covered in dirty dishes for hours before in a restaurant- that seemed a bit distasteful.
The second issue I had was that toward the end of our stay, we started to hear an intense amount of yelling coming from the back room from a man. We couldn't tell what was happening, but it went on for awhile while there was no music to drown it out, and it made us very uncomfortable, as it sounded extremely confrontational and we weren't able to pay and leave without having to find someone, and everyone was in the back.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience save for the small issues, and I would probably give it...
