Bernie's Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Ontario

Regular customers and usually the service and food has been very good. Today's experience was anything but. To start the service was exceptionally slow, waiting an extended period for fountain pop. We ordered fajitas as it was Mexican night. Our topping and torts came out and the torts were cold. My GF had a bug in her lettuce to which we notified the server who replied "gross" after looking at it. My GF had lost her appetite at that point. We waited an extended period of time for our hot food to arrive. My chicken was luke warm like it had been sitting for a while, it was dry and tasteless; I could not eat it. The server took for ever to come back. We reported to her and the manager came over. He said they were making fajitas all evening and that they're prepared from scratch in house and no one else complained about it. He said he would take the food off. We were still charged our pop; at $7 for two fountain pops!! The server took forever to come back so I went to the bar to pay. The manager greeted me again and said he would take care of the pop. He again defended the quality of his food, said that there was no bug in my GF lettuce and made no attempt to apologize for our awful experience. I moved to Byron in January and was very excited about having a restaurant walking distance from where I live. I’ve gone three times and each time the service got worst. Thursday June 26 I came at 8pm for some apps and a drink and as soon as I walked in the host had a hostile attitude, not welcoming at all. We were sat on bar and a blonde lady came over, she was the only one who gave us good service, she took our drink order and then another lady with a ponytail came with the drinks and took our food order. When the food came out she dropped the food and didn’t say a single thing, not even is there anything else I can grab you. I did want a ranch and it wasn’t until the blonde lady came back and checked in with us that I was able to ask for it 10 mins later. If you don’t wanna give service don’t be a server. The lady with the ponytail didn’t come back until we were done and asked how everything was. I’m a server and the restaurant was hardly busy so I don’t understand why I couldn’t have been given bare minimum. I did give the blonde lady a cash tip but not the lady with the ponytail as she didn’t deserve my cash that I earned. Great family-owned bar/grill. I was very pleased with our food and service at Bernie’s. We had the Mozzarella & Onion burger w/side of fries, the Wing/Finger platter w/side onion rings and two Caesar drinks. The Good: really great food…my wings were perfectly done (asked for well done), I liked the medium sauce and the wings were good quality, better than other wings that are laced with fatty pieces throughout and I really enjoyed the blue cheese dip; the fingers were so tasty with a thin ‘crunchy’ texture to the breading; burger patties were lean, well cooked, great toppings and fries cooked perfectly. The Bad: if I had any (minor) critiques, it would be the Caesar…good but nothing special and the .75 cent charge for the blue cheese dip…that should just be a given (free) with wings but no real biggie. The onion rings were tasty but a bit on the over-fried side for my liking.
