Okay, I have to start by saying the guy working the counter was an absolute gem. Super friendly, really helpful, and just an all-around pleasant dude. I honestly feel bad writing this review because he was great. But my goodness, the food. It was a culinary crime scene. We came here seeking the simple joy of a good taco and burrito, and we left feeling like we were the victims of a culinary assault. The experience was so memorable, in fact, that my friend is currently contemplating a Technicolor yawn all over my passenger seat. Thanks for that. Let's talk about the "taco." I use the term loosely because what I received was less of a taco and more of a soggy, lukewarm folded pancake of despair. The tortilla had the structural integrity of a wet paper towel. I took one bite, and the entire contents – a mysterious, grey-ish ground meat that tasted vaguely of salt and sadness – immediately evacuated onto my plate, leaving me with a sad, empty shell. The burrito was no better. It was an enormous, soulless cylinder of broken promises. The rice was crunchy, the beans were a watery soup, and the "grilled veggies" must have been grilled last Tuesday. The whole thing was ice-cold in the center. I've had frozen burritos from the grocery store that were more authentically prepared. My friend, who is currently making noises I can only describe as "pre-puke," is the real victim here. He's clutching his stomach and staring blankly into the distance, likely reliving the horror of his "carne asada" which looked and tasted more like boiled shoe leather. So, five stars for the guy at the counter, but one star for the food, which unfortunately is what we came for. I hope they get a new chef, because the front-of-house staff deserves so much better. We're off to find some ginger ale for my friend's recovery. You've...
Read moreNot much selection for what type of vessel you'd want for your burrito. I got the biggest one available (12") and got chicken as the meat. Guy behind the counter asked me if I wanted rice and I said just a little and he put a whole scoop (looked like a cup 250g). Right from there I knew this burrito was gonna be messed up. Already too much. Asked for the basics, lettuce, tomato, hot pepper, olives, and whatever sauce (I can't remember what exact sauce I got). Guy making burrito proceeds to push all the toppings into the middle and roll it as you should only that now it was the size of a baseball and the shape of one too. I asked him to unroll and try to flatten the toppings so it'll be longer instead of taller. He said it was too late since the stretches the tortilla already. I saw that they had guacamole and it was $2.50 extra. I asked for some on the side and some tortilla chips to go with it. Once I got home I realized that the guac was just mushed up avacado (didn't even have salt). They advertised it as guac so I was quite unimpressed by that. The chicken was gummy and overcooked. The lettuce was soggy but the tortilla chips were very good with a good spice to them. Overall that's why I gave it 2/5 hope this review...
Read moreI've been a long time frequent customer, at least twice a month. I have noticed ever since the ownership changed a while back, the consistency has changed greatly. The food is often under or over seasoned, missing the mark. Whether you Macdonald's or The Keg, the flavours should be the same every time. That's what customers expect. When you are good, the food is very good, but the next visit may not be. Last Tuesday was the last straw. The ground beef was so over seasoned, it was very spicy and salty, the black beans were still crunchy. It was almost inedible. The people working were very unorganized as well. I stopped eating the el pastor a long time ago (one of my favourites once upon a time). Not seasoned right, and the chunks are so big, not bite sized, not enjoyable. Lastly, the pico de gallo is not real pico. It's just giant tomato chunks with other stuff diced in there that you can't taste, no lime or proper seasoning. Everything is to be more uniformly diced and more even in flavour. It'll be a long time before I return, if I do. I hope the Bobby Burrito employees take this time to get on the same page and get on track with consistency. I will...
