Burt’s Bar — Restaurant in Ontario

My wife, son and I were downtown London and had a couple hours to fill before an event. My wife loves steak and she saw Burt's special signage for Thursday. Baseball Steak dinner after 5pm. We were seated to a window table quickly by our kind and alert hostess. Our server Jasmine was extremely personable and efficient and set the pace for a wonderful experience. That means so much to me and it is missed be many restaurants. The right people matter. She got our order and my family were chatting about the fun decor of this fantastic Sports Bar and the multiple TV screens. If she didn't set our time up as she did we would be watching every detail with a critcal eye for any mishaps. Instead we felt invited to the establishment as a customer and not a pest. To many places are just filling their staffing needs with desperate hires and should be as Burts did with quality individuals. Thank you to the management team. With that, in no time the food came. My wife's got the special steak, my son got the nachos with beef, and I got the hot honey chicken fingers. The nachos stood out for it's plating. Piled high and filled with cheese, beef and other traditional ingredients. The saying, "you eat with your eyes" was in full action. Taste is king! Discriminated Against and Treated Unfairly at Burt’s Bar – Completely Unacceptable

What happened to me at Burt’s Bar was not just disappointing — it was deeply hurtful. I was denied entry because of a small bag, the same size as any regular handbag women were walking in with. It was pouring rain, and despite that, the security staff were rude and dismissive. They showed no empathy and no fairness.

As a Black, openly gay man, I can’t help but feel that my identity played a part in how I was treated. I don’t hide who I am, and I felt judged for it. I came to enjoy my last night in London, Ontario, and instead, it was completely ruined.

I had every intention of supporting the business and spending money, but I wasn’t even given a fair chance. It felt like I was profiled — both racially and based on my sexual orientation. That’s not just bad customer service, that’s discrimination.

This company needs to be held accountable. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect, no matter who they are. What happened to me should never happen to...
