I had made a reservation a day or 2 before for 10 people. When we arrived, some of us 15 minutes before our reservation we were told they had given away our table to a walk in group an hour before our reservation but that they had booths as long as we would split up our group. We decided to do this as we were a large group and I feared we wouldn't get in anywhere else (which is why we made the reservation). We all ordered our drinks at the same time, the drinks took a little while coming out which would have been acceptable but the server also only served them at one table. Our table didn't know about it until we asked about our drinks quite a while later. The food orders we did put in all at the same time but we were served quite far apart. The first table getting it's food more than 10 minutes before ours and as such being basically finished by the time ours arrived. On top of that we had a diabetic person at our table whose food did not come with most of our table and by the time it did the had to ask for a 'to go' box as it had taken so long for her food to.come that not only was the first table served finished but our table as well. The entire service took a little over 1.5 hours and unfortunately the food was not worth the wait either and though the servers were mostly pleasant the mistakes that were made could have been avoided with proper training. The hollandaise sauce looked better than it tasted, the salsa did not seem fresh, for a place with fruit in it's name their was so much more fried potato than fruit on anyone's plate, 'Greasy Spoon' would be a more appropriate title. A very...
Read moreHaving eaten at the Coco Frutti in the west end a million times, thought we'd try the east end in hopes of not too long of wait at brunch time on a Sunday.
We walked in and waited about 5 minutes for someone to acknowledge us, with a line of people behind us as well. Got sat but no menus were provided. Got my own since it was right there. There were multiple tables that had not been cleaned completely from the previous guests. There was a clean table that I asked to sit at however a table was cleaned off for us, rather than using the one that was available. Meh. Whatever.
The people in line behind us got sat far faster than us. We watched as they were not only greeted by their waitress but their order taken before we'd even seen our waitress.
When the waitress did come over, she was incredibly nice. Took our orders with no fuss.
The food was good, as to be expected however the potatoes? By FAR the star of every plate. They were, in a word, incredible! I could eat an entire plate of those with no problem.
In comparison to the west end Coco Frutti, this location could take some lessons from the west end location on service however the west end location could steal these potatos to be pure perfection.
Would I return to the east end location? If I was out that way, maybe. I wouldn't make the drive out there when I could go to the west end...
Read moreThe service was excellent. The atmosphere was comfortable and clean aside from the fruit flies hovering around our table. Unfortunately, there were issues with some of the food.
I ordered a crepe called Delicious. It sounded interesting but it wasn’t great. The crepe had grated green apple with maybe a little shredded cheese. It came with maple syrup and was presented with a slice of orange and grapefruit and a rotting strawberry.
The crepe may have been better if they used better apples such as thinly sliced Macintosh with maybe a little cinnamon. The cheese would have been better if it wasn’t so bland. An older cheddar, sliced, not shredded might have been good.
One of my kids didn’t like their bacon and they usually like bacon a lot. I tried it and needed a napkin to get it out of my mouth. It tasted like old grease, but otherwise bland without any bacon flavour. It was also stiff and when chewed, disintegrated into what I can only describe as something like tree bark. My best guess is that the bacon was deep fried. My other kid didn’t mind, so maybe it’s just not for everyone.
Aside from some of the food not being great, we enjoyed our time there with one another and I don’t...
