The Duchess Pub — Restaurant in Ontario

Food was so so so good. I got the chicken sammy which was honestly the perfect buffalo chicken sandwich. It was super crispy, flavourful and perfect spice. My partner got the steak pie. He enjoyed it but I don't eat steak. I believe fries are cooked from frozen but they were really good for frozen fries. They are the style that seem almost battered so they are super crispy and hit the spot.

Lost a star because service was so-so. After waiting for a table at the bar it took another 10 min once the table cleared for the bartender to clarify if we were waiting for the table and cleared it themselves for us. They aren't using menus because of pandemic (understandable) but no one explained this to us and we had to wait 20 min before finally asking for a menu and then they explained and took our order. Also just felt like server was not generally attentive to us but they were friendly. they were busy with only one server and so I didn't really hold it against server, but maybe having 2 servers on a Friday night (or even a host/table cleaner) would be best. Absolutely terrible service. Would not recommend. A group of us have been going after pickleball weekly for over a month. The choice in the east end is the Duchess or St Louis and we always try to support local. First time, service was very slow... no acknowledgement we were there... then drinks slow to come once finally ordered. We thought it might be a one-off so tried again the following week without significantly better results. We have gone 4 of out 5 weeks with last night being the worst. 3 servers working. Asked one server if he was our server (after waiting several minutes) and his response was "if no one else serves you in a few more minutes then I will be back". Then the manager comes over and says someone will be with us soon while she proceeds to clean the empty table beside us (no one was waiting for it). Seriously, take our order then clean the table. We were seated timely however was very disappointed with the menu as the items that both my partner and I were looking for were no longer available. The menu is now primarily boring pub Fair like fish and chips with nothing special how about them. The place was busy and obviously at the bar there was no social distancing. Which later led to our surprise when the apparent manager yelled at some other customers that we are in the middle of a pandemic when they asked to be moved to a warmer table or have the door to the patio which no one was using except for smokers locked. A very reasonable request in our minds. It looked like the waitress handled it a bit better than he did however I would not have wanted to be the three ladies that were treated so poorly.
