So sad to see another great spot to eat going downhill with new owners that have had many, many months since taking over from previous AMAZING owners to learn the restaurant business. New owner does not conduct himself like an owner should. Experience at Dawg House was terrible! Waitress was amazing and was apologizing and taking ownership for the terrible food experience versus the owner Bob, his only focus was to take every opportunity to challenge me and others in our party instead of taking total responsibility as an owner of an establishment should. He did not once apologize to us for the poor food quality and service, instead talking back and basically guilting us for providing constructive criticism to how the food ordered was prepared and served. (Chow mein noodles in the stir fry bowls that some of us had ordered were more like soggy over cooked spaghetti) so very disappointed to say the least!! We tried to explain over and over that we have eaten at Dawg House many times over the years but have never experienced such poor food quality. We supported Dawg House throughout Covid and made sure to show our appreciation to the staff by tipping generously every time we had take out (which was disappointing at times but we never complained because of the whole covid situation and supporting local restaurants business). Owners concern was that we were “trying to get everything for free” which was a total disrespectful comment on his part. He cut us off several times while we were trying to remain constructive with our criticism to explain our complaints and bluntly asked “how do you want the bills prepared” and walked away. Bob didn’t even have the common courtesy to come over again to attempt an apology as our bills were being handed out to us. I think Bob needs further training in the restaurant business. You would think that Bob would focus more on retention of customers instead of blatantly accusing long time patrons of “trying to get everything for free”. And to top it off, we were told that the 5 dawg house platters on our bill were given to us at 25% off (thought we could trust that our bill would reflect the discount) only to check our bill once we were home and find that NO DISCOUNT was given at all!!! Way to continue...
Read moreThis place is special to me but I had to change my review. We brought my mother in law here for dinner after getting her cancer results because she really wanted wings but I’ll just cut to the chase. Honestly they were some of the worst wings we ever had. A pizza place does better.
The wings were incredibly overcooked and dry. That was the worst part about it. They were chewy you had to pull the meat off the bones and they just were not enjoyable, probably the first time I didn’t finish a plate of wings. On top of that we sat there for half an hour before getting our food which isn’t too bad but just adds insult to injury. My mother in law loved the sauce, but they were just so overcooked that she stated they were the worst wings she ever had and weren’t fit for a dog and I agree. Absolutely unacceptable and unprofessional to send something like that just a sign of laziness or carelessness from the Kitchen, especially when we pay $83 before tip for only 3 people. No booze except for one shot.
The next gripe I had was the sauce. You walk into a place like this you expect their wings to be hot if you order hot. I asked them to make the wings as hot as possible like, try to kill me hot and they brought me the suicide wings. It was flavoured like it wanted to be hot, it was that distinct pepper flavour but they weren’t hot at all. They were a light medium and that’s what was the most disappointing to me. Amp up your sauce guys come on, it’s already sub par you can at least be honest on the god damn menu. Disappointing for a place with so many flavour options.
Just a couple more things… the food came out lukewarm and the salad was soggy.
On top of ALL of this, there were 6-7 people in the restaurant, 2 of them were drinking and 3 of them were us so they weren’t busy. Poorest quality control.
Absolutely love the front staff, they’re wonderful. But they’d sooner be better off hiring someone like me to cook for them. Someone with experience and consistent standards 👎
Won’t be back here unless if it’s for beer lol although I usually would like a snack...
Read moreSo long time ago when I was in my early 20s, I used to venture the Dawghouse all the time as the pub to go to. I was thrilled with the music that they played there, the atmosphere, and staff were fun and welcoming. The owners were very personable, and the food was excellent and reasonably priced.
I visited tonight and was incredibly disappointed about what this place has become. It took over an hour to serve our group food, and what arrived was abysmal. The beer dip that I ordered was bland, watery, and completely miss labeled. It said it came with pretzel bites, but only came with one pretzel. Underneath were a bunch of stale nacho chips. The dip itself was watery and it was more like a soup and a dip. The wings that arrived were burnt and covered in Heinz ketchup as their mild sauce. It was incredibly disappointing. The ice tea I ordered with water with very little flavor. My wife’s alcoholic beverage was an LCBO purchase. I suspect that many of the other plates that were ordered at our table were budgeted pre-made or frozen food. Incredibly disappointing.
One of our group had to leave because it took so long to get their food. The waitress said they were not prepared to receive her group, and that if we had called ahead and made reservations, they would be prepared.
Our group consisted of 11 people and one child, and we were the only ones in the pub! There were a few people at the bar drinking and a couple of people behind us with drinks
I am curious to know what would happen during a dinner, rush if a Pub like this is unable to serve 11 people in a group
All in all, it is incredibly disappointing to see what this place has become, the food is terrible, and the service was argumentative.
I will not be back here ever again, which is unfortunate because this used to be one of my favourite...
