It is a good Vietnamese restaurant in London, Ontario on Huron Street not far between the Masonville area and the north side of Highbury Avenue. Their food is a bit more authentic than any other restaurants I have gone too that serves pho, vermicelli and other. Reasonable pricing, but recently know their portion size had been upgrading to be bigger than before. The downfall is the space of the restaurant is limited to walk around and for seating areas especially during busy hours including the parking lot of the business. It lost 2 Stars because one time; my relative have done an order through the phone call. I picked up the food and give the person who is giving me the food a red $50.00 Canadian Dollar bill. He took it; however, never give me back the change or forgot about it. It is not a tipped or he forget to return back the change. It cost my time and our own gas of our vehicle from our home to their restaurant as that waiter never give me back my change. That is our hard earn money we work for. I was not even dining in their restaurant just because it is a service industry business does not mean you would always expect a tip. That triggered me to not return here and I would rather go to Jack Astor’s restaurant next time. Another lost star is the Oscar cichlid fish should be upgraded into a bigger aquarium. Those fish get big and needs an aquarium over 75 gallons as I do own pet fish at home. It is like putting 100 people in their tiny restaurant. Their aquarium is limited space for those Oscar fish, and there are other type of fish can go in those smaller aquariums such as guppies, platies, mollies, angelfish or certain types of smaller cichlids. Hai Dang restaurant has good food, but I stop coming here because:
Very small restaurant with limited space to walk around or be seated.
I give that waiter a $50.00 bill. He just took it and never gave me back my leftover change as it is not a tip.
Oscar fish are big cichlids. They need to be in bigger aquariums. Their aquarium is capable to handle smaller fish from guppies, mollies and the biggest is some angelfish.
That is the experience of coming to Hai Dang restaurant. I would rather go to East Side Mario’s Italian restaurant next time the one across from...
Read moreA year after my first visit, I’m thrilled to share a review of Hai Dang Vietnamese Restaurant.
The menu began with a thoughtful message, “We Are Mindful Of All Dietary And Nutritional Concerns, Please Share With Your Servers. Any Allergies Or Preferences, We Are Always Pleased To Accommodate.”
The extensive menu covered many options. I went with a Cơm Rice combo ($15.95). It came with the following: -Grilled B.BQ. pork (also available as chicken) -Shredded pork rind -Steamed egg -Shrimp on rice -Side of beef broth -Smelly dip with chili flakes
The smelly dip made everything better, even the egg. The shrimp appeared to be a unique species not found in Canada, with a distinct flavour. I’ll even say this type of shrimp may be superior to ours. The beef broth was just as exceptional.
I got a Coconut Shake ($6.75). It looked like packing snow and jutted out far above rim of the glass, making for a captivating photo.
Vietnamese cuisine is fascinating, offering a refreshing twist of unique ingredients and...
Read moreI've got a really high expectation to dine here because it seems that everyone in the comments love this restaurant so much. I drove across the city for 20 mins and I am very disappointed. The service is pretty good, but I was shocked by how small the sizes of dishes are. A small size beef noodle is really for the small stomach of a 5 years old girl. A large one is not really enough for a person with a normal appetite. I usually eat less than many people, but I will say the large size could only makes me feel not hungry when I left. I bet it is normal that people left and still felt hungry. The price looks fine but actually is kinda overcharged because of the tiny sizes. And they don't really have a various collection but just some basic Vietnamese dishes if you are familiar with Vietnamese food. Personally it is disappointing for me to see what they can offer. BTW, they are cash only but without any warning sign outside, which took us another trip to the bank to get the cash and pay. Not worth driving a...
